Friday and the Random 10 (NFL Draft Edition)

You know, I just don't get it. I know I am a big Bama homer, but one guy drafted in the first round? And not even a defensive player? Am I the only one that actually watched football this past season? I saw team after team "reaching" for player after player, including the Ole Mess players with drug/assault problems. Hey guys, there's a reason your team was 3-13 last year and you have a new head coach every other season. #Idiots #ICanDraftBetterThanThat

I suppose there's always Round 2 today. Ugh...

Friday and the Random 10 (Xanadu Edition)

You know, I was looking at last week's Random Ten and, like all the others before it, I kinda realized that the picture for the post has nothing to do with the current post itself. So this week I am calling an audible and trying something new. The following picture contains the albums from today's Random Ten:

Friday and the Random 10 (Disney Chaos Edition)

Well there is certainly a lot going on right now with Christmas coming up. The tree is finally up at the Magic Kingdom (#crooked) since all the parade filming got done this week. Props to my MayKay. I work every single day after today.

There is also the Survivor finale next week, the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special, and bowl season (#RollTide #SEC) all leading up to New Year's Eve. Disney is the one place you do not, I repeat DO NOT want to go that day. It's chaos I tell you! Chaos!

Friday and the Random 10 (Warehouse of Suck Edition)

I was hit with an interesting idea this week of actually making the Random 10 a weekly video, possibly on YouTube. I am currently entertaining that idea. I mean I could see where the video could be at the top of the post with the normal write up underneath. The whole thing has some merit and it's got me thinking...a lot...

But until then, it's back to the normal format. Looking back at last week I see that Frank Zappa is banned, but no worries because I went ahead and deleted all of his stuff anyway. Just not my thing. And it's still September so all RW will be ignored as well.

As usual the rules and whatnot are up there ↑ at the top.

**************************************************************************
On with da show!

1) Steve Howe/More About You - This was one of his Homebrew demos that became part of ABWH's "Quartet".

2) Chicago/Song for You - Weak love song from them right between the good years and the "warehouse of suck"© that was coming in the future. Ugh.

3) Yes/Astral Traveller - I have never really been crazy over this song. As with most older Yes, I covered this song here.

4) No Doubt/Hey You - Who me? I do like their sound.

5) Extreme/Peacemaker Die - This is probably the greatest album no one has heard. If you do not have a copy of Extreme/III Sides to Every Story get it yesterday.

6) Chicago/Elegy:When All the Laughter Dies in Sorrow - They used to care and actually had a message. Banned, but a great spoken piece off Chicago III:

When all the laughter dies in sorrow
And the tears have risen to a flood
When all the wars have found a cause
In human wisdom and in blood
Do you think they'll cry in sadness
Do you think the eye will blink
Do you think they'll curse the madness
Do you even think they'll think
When all the great galactic systems
Sigh to a frozen halt in space
Do you think there will be some remnant
Of beauty of the human race
Do you think there will be a vestige
Or a sniffle or a cosmic tear
Do you think a greater thinking thing
Will give a damn that man was here

7) Red Hot Chili Peppers/Road Trippin' - These guys do some great sounding stuff sometimes. Never heard this song before but I like it.

8) Cherry Poppin' Daddies/Ding Dong Daddy of the D-Car Line - I also can't say no to a good caboose!

9) The Mahavishnu Orchestra/Awakening - If you're going to be jazzy, this is how you bring it. Man, I can hear some Yes/Relayer in this song. No wonder JA said he was influenced by them.

10) Michael Jackson/Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' - C'mon it's like the greatest selling album of all time. No shame here. Go get'm Captain EO!

**************************************************************************
And there we go for another week. Chicago gets banned again, but at least RW didn't try to show up. I did delete some of his inventory as well. I go back and forth with him but it is just so much material.

The STCS this week is Lynyrd Skynyrd/Sweet Home Alabama. Gulp.

I just had a Vongasm.

Hold on...let me recover...

As always stay cool and dry wherever you are, and Roll Tide!

Do I even need to say it?

Friday and the Random 10 (Too Moody Edition)

So here we go again. Last week was a mess of sorts I suppose. We have The Beatles, Jimmy Buffett and Jimi Hendrix all unavailable for this week's countdown. That's the most I can ever recall at the same time. Don't know what I'm talking about? Check the rules and whatnot up there ↑ at the top.

Moving on. Some of you may wonder how I name each "edition". Well I really have to wait until the end to see how things actually played out. That is how randomness works. Anyway, let's fire up Viggle (yeah I'm still playing with that) and the music and see what we get.

Here we go!

1) The Human League/The Lebanon - Never heard this one before. A whole 80's edition would be awesome though.

2) Trans-Siberian Orchestra/Tracers - One of their non-Christmas CD's. This one was called Night Castle and parts of it are just plain wicked. In a good way.

3) The Moody Blues/Evening:The Sunset:Twilight Time - Awesome album with an orchestra. Album cover winner:

4) The Moody Blues/Running Out of Love - Ugh they can never show up just once it seems. Banned.

5) Joan Jett & The Blackhearts/You Don't Know What You've Got - Keep on rocking you sexy thang!

6) Van Halen/(Oh) Pretty Woman - They got to a point where they did a lot of other people's songs. I don't know why.

7) Jon Anderson/Good Day Morning - Even Viggle couldn't figure out what the Hell Jon was singing about.

8) Asia/The Last to Know - Great, great song from Alpha.

9) The Mahavishnu Orchestra/Sister Andrea - Cool. Haven't heard from these guys in awhile.

10) Enigma/Callas Went Away - Wow, Viggle couldn't sort out the Jon Anderson song, but gets this right away from birds chirping? Dang.

Well there we go for another week. None of the three got Tarkus'd, but The Moody Blues did get banned. Both Jimmy's get set free, but The Beatles still have to wait until the month is over. That's how the rules work.

The STCS this week is Yes/Something's Coming, which is a song I never knew about until I got the YesYears box set. It's from the West Side Story. Yeah, back when they would take popular songs and "Yesify" them. Good, creative stuff.

And there we have it.

As always stay cool and dry central Florida, and Roll Tide!

Play us out solemnly boys...

Friday and the Random 10

Well another week down the tubes and time to settle in on a nice, relaxing weekend. I hope. Well hopefully better than last weekend which featured a trip to Ikea...followed by a lot of screwing (and not the fun kind). Last week's countdown was a little, err, messed up because of new computer issues. Hopefully they've been resolved for this week.

As usual the rules and whatnot are up there ↑ on the top. Also, check out the Refrigerator Magnet Challenge if you get the chance.

Time to rock, and roll the bones!

Friday and the Random 10

All I can say for all you peeps outside of Florida, damn it's been hot down here! So why not take the day off, stay inside, and check out this week's random 10? Sounds good to me. Looking back at last week we are free and clear from anyone being banned, so anything goes this time around. As usual, the rules are over there → to the right.

Let's cool down and listen to the smooth sounds of:

1) Rick Wakeman/The Gospel According to St. John - No really, he did an album about the Gospels too. You cannot make this up.

2) Emerson, Lake and Palmer/The Only Way (Hymn) - Another one with religious undertones. This is from the album Tarkus, about an armadillo tank thingy. Take that RW! Once again, not making this stuff up:

3) America/The Last Unicorn - You know what this list needs? A unicorn reference. Done.

4) Yes/Going For the One - One of the most straight forward rock songs from them. I previously covered this album here. They mixed in some awesome lyrics in there too:

Listen in time, Taken so high
To touch to move, Listen to life
Touching touchtime, Travel twilight
Taken so high, Taking your time
Turn on to love, Turnstile to one
Tender timing, Rocking rolling

Moments decide.
Moments delight.
Moments in flight.
Talk about sending love

5) The Beatles/A Taste of Honey - This is just a weird song by them.

6) Rick Wakeman/Virgo - Hey Rick, can you do a quick album about the Zodiac? You can? Good! Huh? You're done already? Whut?

7) Toto/Out of Love - Nice and mellow. This is more of what I had in mind for today.

8) Chicago/Vote For Me - Good, old school jazzy stuff before the 80's love song crap.

9) Yes (Steve Howe)/Australia - They did an acoustic only bonus disc for one of their compilation box sets. This is technically from one of Howe's solo albums but it was included as being from Yes.

10) The Mahavishnu Orchestra/Eternity's Breath (pt.1) - This is more of that jazz/progressive rock fusion from the early 70's that interests me. Bands were just way more experimental back then. No one even tries to do stuff like this anymore.

Well that was kind of...weird. RW gets himself banned (again, and almost for the month: he does play keyboards on Going For The One). I am going to give Yes a pass on this one though. The STCS for this week is Chicago/Takin' It Uptown. Does this get them banned? I'm going to say yes because both songs are from Chicago XI. Sounds right. Until next week, stay cool central Florida.

Play us out Jon Jon and Steve and RW!

Friday and the Random 10 (Monsters University Edition)

Real quick one today since it's been a busy morning and about to head off to see Monsters U. Rules and whatnot over there → to the right.

1) Apollo 440/Astral America

2) RHCP/Dosed

3) The Buggles/Johnny on the Monorial (A Very Different Version)

4) Yes/Arriving UFO

5) Yes/Time is Time - one week back and they get banned already.

6) Chicago/(I've Been) Searching So Long

7) Mozart/Serenate Parts I and II - I got class yall

8) Korn/Beg For Me

9) Steve Howe/Classical Gas

10) The Mahavishnu Orchestra/A Lotus on Irish Streams

Well, that was kind of all over the place. The STCS for this week is Rick Wakeman/The Bear. Of course it's good ole RW! This must be his CD about forest animals.

Play us out Yes

Friday and the Random 10 (05/24/13)

Ugh! Finally a off day after going back to work and all that blah blah blah. Great to see all my old coworkers though! And my off day falls on a Friday? How convenient! As usual the rules are over there to the right → so let's dig into my somewhat eclectic music collection and see what the gods of randomness reveals. Looking back at last week I see that Jimmy Buffet is ineligible. Maybe I should keep a running count? I dunno. I keep tweaking my own rules. Anyway, on with the show!

1) Van Halen/You're No Good - From the good ole David Lee Roth days

2) Jon Anderson/Far Away in Baagad - You know, sometimes I have no idea what the hell JA is singing about. This is one of them.

3) Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe/Fist of Fire (alternate version) - Ok, yeah this is from my #1 desert island CD. Yes, the one from this pathetic relationship story. Imagine my surprise years later when I find out there were alternate versions of some of the songs and even songs left off the album entirely (good ones too). I think the most telling thing about the whole situation was that there was going to be an ABWH II album that never materialized. It makes me feel like there was potential there for that relationship to continue, but forces stopped it from happening. Yeah, I read a lot into things...

4) The Little Mermaid/Fathoms Below - Er, ummm, yeah this was downloaded for my girls. Yeah, that's the ticket. Look away now. Nothing to see here.

5) The Beatles/While My Guitar Gently Weeps - Classic. Nuff said.

6) Joan Jett & the Blackhearts/Fake Friends - Never heard this song before, but I like it. You got nothing to lose, you don't lose when you lose fake friends. Nice. New one for this list too.

7) Korn/Killing - Blame Tabitha for this one.

8) Korn/Y'all Want a Single - And for this one too. At least the are banned from next week now.

9) The Mahavishnu Orchestra/Jazz - This is some of that late 60's, early 70's fusion stuff I was looking into. I tried them out because I noticed Jon Anderson always mentioned them as in influence in interviews. I would have sworn they have made the list before but I guess not.

10) Styx/The Grand Illusion - Just not that version. This is the re-recording from their Regeneration CD. So no DDY, just Lawrence Gowan singing his parts. Me no likey. Don't mess with the originals.

So a little bit of everything this week. A few newcomers, Korn gets banned, and you learn a little more about my obsession with ABWH. The STCS for this week is Lynyrd Skynyrd/What's Your Name. Not bad. No doubt who's playing us out this week:
