Friday and the Random Ten (Buckle Up Edition)

Hey, did you know baseball season started? Oh, wait they have to talk about Wisconsin and Duke for another few days. So much for choosing Kentucky in my bracket. It's a good thing I don't do that for money. And Bama has a coach now in former NBA player Avery Johnson. His press conference was amazing. When the University of Alabama calls, you pick up the phone. #BuckleUp

Before we get things going, how about that Random Ten last week? You can take a quick review by following this link, or trying to figure out the artists from the cool picture below:

Friday and the Random 10 (Snowmageddon Edition)

The big news lately I guess has been the weather up north. Like OMG, it's like snowing...in winter! I bet it snowed this time last year too. Apart from having Jim Cantorgasms over the thunder snowstorm (okay, that was actually cool), down here in Florida it just doesn't seem like y'all live on the same planet as I do. I mean look at the 10 day forecast over there on the right. Over the weekend we are expected to be close to the 80's. And you know what? I hate it. Give me a freaking winter for at least a month please. I will trade you some of this sunshine and humidity for just a few inches of snow. I wish there was somebody we could talk to about this...

Anyway, I guess there is nothing I can do about that. What we can do is think happy thoughts and let the gods of randomness show favor upon us by blessing us with some great music for the soul. Last week was Friday the 13th, which is a day we celebrate around these parts. As a quick review, you can follow this link, or check out the cool picture below:

Friday and the Random 10

Well another week has passed us by, but you know what that means! It's Friday! And time to be random! Don't worry, I'm not going to end every sentence with an exclamation point! Oops, I mean "." Anyway, looking back at last week, I see that Def Leppard got banned. As usual, the rules and whatnot are over there → to the right.

Here we go!

1) Across The Universe/Soundtrack (Across the Universe) - I mean it wasn't Sgt Peppers with the Bee Gees and Peter Frampton (what is?), but it was a decent movie.

2) The Alan Parsons Project/Can't Take It With You - You know, in their off time from building that giant death laser on the moon.

3) The Alan Parsons Project/What Goes Up... - And we have our first banning of the day. Too bad cuz I like them.

4) Def Leppard/Hell Raiser Yes/Clear Days - The Tarkus has eliminated its target, allowing Yes to proceed. I have previously covered this song and album here.

5) ELO/Julie Don't Live Here Anymore - Did you ever buy a record and end up liking the bonus track/B-side more? This was the case with both of the singles from their album Time. And this song didn't even make the album.

6) Van Halen/You Really Got Me - Anyone else notice they did a lot of remakes of other people's stuff?

7) Jimmy Buffet/Who's The Blonde Stranger - Oh Jimmy and your comedic ways...

8) Ratt/Way Cool Jr. - Yes I am and welcome to the party pal!

9) Thomas Dolby/I Love You Goodbye - This is how I feel about a lot of things lately. Good song.

10) ABBA/Take a Chance on Me - Move along. Nothing to see here. Ignore the women in go-go boots behind the curtain.

So there we go. Alan Parsons shows up and gets banned while Def Leppard tries to sneak back in but got Tarkus'd. The STCS for this week is Yes/Soft as a Dove. Does that get them banned? I'm going to say yes to Yes for doing two wimpy songs. I love you goodbye (see what I did there?). Anyway, stay cool central Florida, and Roll Tide!

I love this song.

Friday and the Random 10

Now that I have finished that other wimpy post, it's time for something manly. How about some music? And let's make it random! Yeah, you know the deal. The rules and whatnot are over there → to the right as always. Looking back at last week I see that Chicago and, ummm who would that be, oh yeah Rick Wakeman are banned for this week. On a side note, I deleted a lot of RW last week, only leaving the actual classics. The rest was just...unnecessary.

And now for the manly music!

Friday and the Random 10

This week, before I even start the randomness, I'm going to give a shout out to a song. You see, I open up media player on my computer and click "music" so it lists every song by artist alphabetically. Then when I right click to "play all" with the shuffle on I start with the same song at the top of the list every week. This means that this song will never show up in the Random 10. So here's to you Abba/Dancing Queen for getting us started, and for leading the way to...

1) Michael Jackson/State of Shock - Featuring Mick Jagger. Not a bad song, but kind of funny to hear them bantering back and forth.

2) Yes/Turn of the Century - One of the most beautiful and romantic songs they have even done. Album cover winner here, and it's not Roger Dean but Storm Thorgerson, who passed away this week so it's only fitting.

3) The Beatles/Please Please Me - Sounds like somebody was in a one sided relationship.

4) Jethro Tull/Up To Me - from the Aqualung album and a first time for them. So they get a "Welcome to the party pal!" award.

5) The Moody Blues/Foolish Love - Never heard this one but it sounds like from when they were popular again slightly in the late 80's/early 90's.

6) Pink Floyd/A Great Day for Freedom - You know of my not so love for PF. This song does nothing to improve my opinion of them.

7) Billy Joel/Leningrad - Is there anything he does that isn't great?

8) Kansas/Mysteries and Mayhem - Now this is some classic stuff probably no one has heard of unless you're really into Kansas. Great older stuff.

9) Aerosmith/Falling in Love (Is Hard on the Knees) - Live version of the good Aerosmith before everything was a long whiny song that all sounded the same.

10) Pink Floyd/Sheep - Again? Ugh. As musicians I can appreciate their sound though.

Well there we go again, another week in the books. I noticed nothing has shown up yet from all the new stuff I added recently. Oh well, the STCS for this week is The Beatles/Here Comes The Sun. Nice.

Play us out boys!

Friday and the Random 10

Yeah yeah, I know it's been awhile. Life has kept me busy with so many things going on lately: Bestie leaving, websites, movie screenplays, work and on and on and on. Anyway, time to make a big splash again and see what the gods of randomness have in store for me today. On with da show!

1) Red Hot Chili Peppers/Parallel Universe - funky groove as always

2) Rick Wakeman/Lost at Sea - RW made an album about ocean wrecks??? Oh wait, this is from Sea Airs...close enough

3) Billy Joel/Big Shot - when Mr William Joel ruled the world

4) Styx/Man in the Wilderness - classic gem from TS and a classic cover

5) Led Zeppelin/Candy Store Rock - I still dont get them. I mean the when they were great they were great but other than I that I hear alot of "baby baby oh yeah" music

6) The Beatles/I Want to Tell You - this is actually a song I'm not familiar with...sounds like it's right before they went all 60's on everyone

7) Red Hot Chili Peppers/One Hot Minute - this one isnt so funky but twice in one day? Maybe I'm supposed to eat Taco Bell or something today

8) Aerosmith/Back in the Saddle - back before all their songs sounded the same

9) Styx/The Best of Times - /******  <~~~ the cat just typed that...anyway this is the live version from Caught in the Act

10) ABBA/Ring Ring - whuh? Okay, I get to type DELETE again...bye bye from my library

Well that was a chore to finish with my new kitten trying to walk all over the keyboard after trying to climb up my leg (i'm in shorts). The Spinal Tap Commemorative Song this week is Led Zeppelin/Sick Again...ugh. Until next time! Play us out Billy!

Friday and the Random 10

Well I know it's Friday and I know what i'm supposed to do but....my media player isn't cooperating just yet. I knew from last week it wasn't seeing all my songs so I had to go back in and delete/re-add my libraries. So now I'm waiting for the songs to show up...and waiting...and...

Okay, here we go. I think this thing is working correctly. Click the songs, play random and:

1) Asia/Orchard of Mines - from their Phoenix cd...this was basically my divorce CD so it brings back that time period when I was still working at Millennium Technology...bummer of a start

2) Jon Anderson/Speed Deep (Deep Forest) - this was actually a remix CD of Deseo...and it actually doesn't suck

3) Paul McCartney/Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey - always thought this was a strange song but the "hands across the water" part makes it worthwhile

4) Lady Gaga/SummerBoy - I told you I added some never stuff, you know, so I could attempt to be "hip"..this actually isn't so bad...

5) ABBA/Take a Chance on Me - guilty pleasure...yeah I like it...so what?

6) Rick Wakeman/The Gospel According to St Luke - like I said before, give RW a topic and he can do a solo album about it...

7) Emerson Lake & Palmer/Hoedown - classic!

8) Camel/A Nod and a Wink - anything that starts off with the sound of a steam train has got to be good...I just wonder why for years I've never heard of Camel? Maybe they're British?

9) Enigma/The Same Parents - nice! I think I might put on Camel and Enigma and listen to it all day...

10) AC/DC/For Those About to Rock - and what a way to finish!

And the Spinal Tap Commemorative Song for this week is Journey/Lay It Down...eh, not bad. You know, looking at all my stuff that shows up alot you can tell i love Progressive music, especially from the 70's. I just think it was a way more creative time period than the crap they play nowadays. Well anyway, play us out boys!

Friday Night and the Random 10: Now with links!

Yeah, I'm doing this on a Friday night. Let the sadness of that sink in...

No pomp or circumstance, just some randomness. I added some links to websites if anyone is interested in certain things.

1) YES/City of Love - from 90125...where is this city that you speak of?

2) Suburbs/Love is the Law - some random 80's music from some random 80's CD

3) Rick Wakeman/Green to Gold - from solo album #374... don't believe me? Look at this list!

4) YES/I Would Have Waited Forever - from Union, and another album cover

5) YES/Owner of a Lonely Heart - yet another from 90125...I've got a sneaking suspicion that my media player is doing its thing where it doesn't recognize all of my music

6) Brittany Spears/Oops I Did It Again - wow, wish it didn't recognize this one

7) Rick Wakeman/The Lone Fisherman - RW again?...yeah my media player is acting funky

8) ABBA/Super Trouper - anywayzzzz

9) King Crimson/Exiles - cool

10) Steve Howe/Beginnings (Themes) - meh

And the Spinal Tap Commemorative Song this week is Journey/Chain Reaction. Okay, that's not actually too bad and I'll actually let them play us out...

The Random 10: Weekend Edition

So I was a little busy with work and all yesterday so I couldn't get this out on time (and I didn't really feel like doing it at 11:30 last night). Anyway, welcome to new and improved Random 10! "How is it new?" you ask. Well there was one last week and this is today so it's NEWER. Improved? Well, I'll have to wait and see what the music is before actually admitting to the veracity of that part.

Here we go:

1) Boston/Need Your Love - great start! This song is from the last great Boston CD (Walk On), because you know that Corporate America was a smelly pile of hippie wimpy bullcrap

2) Jon Anderson/Much Better Reason - from one of his solo albums that was actually kinda decent, Animation, but it's obvious that JonJon needs the same thing DDY does: his old band

3) Enigma/The Alchemist - is there anything by them that isn't awesome?

4) AC/DC/Thunderstruck - are you shitting me? Thunder!

5) Vivaldi/Autumn - and now for a completely change of pace...

6) Vanessa Carlton/Hands on Me - I have a  soft spot for a few female singers that I think actually have talent like VC here

7) Wendy Carlos/Creation of Tron - from the Tron soundtrack, obviously. Wanna read something interesting? Look up Wendy Carlos. Here's a hint: used to be a dude!

8) Rush/Red Barchetta - Rush at their peak

9) Styx/Too Much Time on My Hands - wow, just wow. This is probably my #1 fave album of all time.

10) ABBA/The Way Old Friends Do - yeah I don't know what to say about this one..and it's not even one of the better ABBA songs...but damn those chicks were hot!

Well that was pretty awesome for a change! So see, it was IMPROVED. Truth in advertising for once! The Spinal Tap Special this week is The Commodores/Nightshift.

Plus us out boys!

Friday and the Random 10

Another week has gone by and as I began to write this I realized that my music collection has become pretty static. There's not much I've added in quite awhile (any suggestions?), although I do delete stuff from time to time. I guess I'm just not big on newer music, mainly because I think most of it is crap. Give me substance over style. And like I've always said, if you have to mention your own name in a song OR if every one of your songs has a dance routine to it you can just count me out.

Now that I've said my little rant, let's get on to the music! (after saying all that, Karma is about to bite me in the ass I'm sure).

1) It's Only Rock 'n' Roll/The Rolling Stones - but I like it...

2) ABBA/Under Attack - ok, I figured ABBA would show up at some point...yes I like them...2 hot Swedish women? Yes, please! But I must admit I had never heard this song before. Very disco-y

3) AC/DC/Guns for Hire - these guys seem to show up every week and that's completely fine with me

4) The Beatles/Because - love the vocals in this song...gonna give you the Across the Universe movie version cuz I think it's awesome

5) YES/Shoot High Aim Low - finally we get YES showing up again! Great song from the Big Generator album (mandatory cover below). This is actually 2 songs sung at the same time, one by JonJon and the other by Trevor but it works. Great, if over-produced, album.

6) Foreigner/Counting Every Minute - don't even remember this song. I think this is right before they went wimp.

7) Camel/Survival - this is a band i don't know much about, but they've been around forever apparently (like the early 70's) and I haven't heard anything from them I haven't liked

8) Across the Universe Soundtrack/Helter Skelter - cool that I mentioned the movie earlier

9) Van Halen/1984 - the little synthesizer intro right before "Jump" starts up...awesomeness

10) Europe/In the Future to Come - 80's hair metal...meh...only downloaded this (as i'm sure everyone else does) for The Final Countdown song

I'll let YES play us out...
