Friday and the Random 10

Another week has gone by but this time I'm feeling good due to the recent change in my job situation! This random list has got to be a good one right? RIGHT?!? As usual, the rules are over there → along with descriptions of awards and some inside jokes.

Alright! Let's rock this joint!

1) Red Hot Chili Peppers/Falling into Grace - Starting off funky. Cool.

2) Jon Anderson/My Sweet Jane - His Celtic solo album. You know, there were actually some rumors of Jon and/or Yes doing the soundtrack for Lord of the Rings back in the day. Yeah, I know.

3) Led Zeppelin/Hot Dog - I think LZ basically sucked after IV.

4) Jon Anderson/Meeting(Garden of Geda) - From the best solo work he ever did, Olias of Sunhillow. I have always thought that if I ever got a tattoo it would be the symbol from this album.

5) Van Halen/Hang 'em High - Yeah, kick it boys!

6) Emerson Lake and Palmer/Pirates - I know pirates are all the rage now, but this is an older song before all those movies came out. And it's long and awesome. (TWSS)

7) Chicago/Over and Over - And over to the wimpy love song side. Move over Journey, we have someone to join you in the zone of shame for bands that never survived the 80's.

8) King Crimson/Fracture - Exactly.

9) The Beatles/She's Leaving Home - Not exactly awesome but at least it's from Sgt. Peppers.

10) Chicago/Once or Twice - Hey guys! Remember when you used to make music like this? Neither do we.

Well that's it for another week. I think I am going to institute a rule that says if you show up twice in one countdown then you're ineligible for the next week. So no Jon Jon or Chicago next week. Sounds like a plan. To wrap things all up, the STCS is Billy Joel/The Stranger. Not bad.

Play us out boys!

Friday and the Random 10

This week, before I even start the randomness, I'm going to give a shout out to a song. You see, I open up media player on my computer and click "music" so it lists every song by artist alphabetically. Then when I right click to "play all" with the shuffle on I start with the same song at the top of the list every week. This means that this song will never show up in the Random 10. So here's to you Abba/Dancing Queen for getting us started, and for leading the way to...

1) Michael Jackson/State of Shock - Featuring Mick Jagger. Not a bad song, but kind of funny to hear them bantering back and forth.

2) Yes/Turn of the Century - One of the most beautiful and romantic songs they have even done. Album cover winner here, and it's not Roger Dean but Storm Thorgerson, who passed away this week so it's only fitting.

3) The Beatles/Please Please Me - Sounds like somebody was in a one sided relationship.

4) Jethro Tull/Up To Me - from the Aqualung album and a first time for them. So they get a "Welcome to the party pal!" award.

5) The Moody Blues/Foolish Love - Never heard this one but it sounds like from when they were popular again slightly in the late 80's/early 90's.

6) Pink Floyd/A Great Day for Freedom - You know of my not so love for PF. This song does nothing to improve my opinion of them.

7) Billy Joel/Leningrad - Is there anything he does that isn't great?

8) Kansas/Mysteries and Mayhem - Now this is some classic stuff probably no one has heard of unless you're really into Kansas. Great older stuff.

9) Aerosmith/Falling in Love (Is Hard on the Knees) - Live version of the good Aerosmith before everything was a long whiny song that all sounded the same.

10) Pink Floyd/Sheep - Again? Ugh. As musicians I can appreciate their sound though.

Well there we go again, another week in the books. I noticed nothing has shown up yet from all the new stuff I added recently. Oh well, the STCS for this week is The Beatles/Here Comes The Sun. Nice.

Play us out boys!

Friday and the Random 10

What day is it? Friday! What do we want? A Random 10! You asked for it, you got it! If you're new here, the rules and all the details are over to the right (----> ) on the page I created. As for my other three (four? five?) constant readers welcome back! Enough wasting time, let's get down to it. I'm feeling particularly "anxious" today so I got a good feeling about this one! Here we go:

1) The Beatles/Revolution 1 - Still makes me want to buy a pair of Nike's. I like the faster version of this though. Classic album cover of nothingness:

2) The Buggles/Island - One of the bonus tracks for the re-mastered The Age of Plastic CD. These guys were both in YES at one point. The keyboard player is back with them today.

3) Red Hot Chili Peppers/Road Trippin - Haven't heard from these guys in awhile. Some of their stuff is surprisingly good.

4) Jon Anderson/Myo Maya - a short snippet from his Angels Embrace CD

5) Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe/Vultures in the City - This is the split off band formed by all the ex-Yes members that couldn't use the Yes name. Why this awesome song was not included on the ABWH album is a mystery. Give a listen:

6) Camel/Survival - Another great sounding track from them.

7) Red Hot Chili Peppers/Backwoods - Twice in the same countdown. Cool but a live version which I don't really care for.

8) Mozart/Serenate Part 1&2 - Don't roll your eyes at me. I've loved Mozart ever since I saw Amadeus. Plus, there was that Falco thing...

9) Bob Seger/Against the Wind - Wow. This was my divorce song. Hard time for me and Bob was there.

10) Michael Jackson/Satisfy You - Added his stuff awhile back and this is his first appearance. I don't know this song though so I will probably delete it when I'm done since he seems to be only doing the backing vocals and I have no interest in hearing this song again. So this gets two awards today! Welcome to the party pal, but you've just been deleted. Sorry.

Well that will do it for another week. The STCS this go around is The Beatles/Something. Another classic album but we already have a winner for that. Play us out Bob...

Friday and the Random 10

Another Friday, another list. I'm not feeling very wordy today so i'll just get right down to it.

1) King Crimson/Starless and Bible Black - nice way to start..I've still got alot to explore in their music

2) Styx/Come Sail Away - live version from Caught in the Act...awesome but not quite as awesome as studio

3) Kansas/Andi - another song from that transition love song singing Kansas...which is why they really didnt survive the 80's either...

4) YES/Solly's Beard - technically the Trevor Rabin steel guitar piece from 9021Live the Solos

5) Third Day/Mama - Christian band that still sounds like Hootie to me...

6) Pink Floyd/Dont Leave Now - I'm not as high on them as some people are...pun intended

7) Camel/Send Home the Slates - yeah, I dig 'em

8) The Black Eyed Peas/Where Ya Wanna Go - I got some phunk in me from time to time

9) Francesca Battistelli/It's Your Life - Christian singer who's really nice to look at...

10) Apollo 440/Suitcase '88 - these guys are beyond cool

Alot of big names in the list this week. The Spinal Tap Commemorative Song this time around is YES/Rhythm of Love (Remix), back when every song had a dance remix....<puke>.

Only thing worthwhile to play us out is some Trevor...not from the same album, but video of a live performance...you're welcome Laurie!

Friday and the Random 10

Well here we go again! Another week gone by and time for another popular mostly ignored Random Top 10 blog post. Dosnt matter to me...I like doing them. Gonna skip the rules and get right into it!

1) AC/DC/Beating Around the Bush - I'm thinking I should start every morning with some AC/DC...what a great way to start the day and get you going!

2) The Beatles/Yellow Submarine - wow, this is gonna be stuck in my head all day now...maybe something will come along and knock it out...but at least it gives me the album cover winner

3) Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers/I Won't Back Down - good ole southern boy

4) Red Hot Chili Peppers/My Friends - ok, now I'm kinda getting tired of them since they show up so much

5) Aerosmith/Livin on the Edge - this is the live version but who cares, you get a video

6) Camel/Wait -this is a cool jazzy kinda band

7) Esquire/To The Rescue - great voice but i think she way over-sings sometimes...bonus video

8) Rick Wakeman/The Colossus of Rhodes - now my week is complete...lol, old joke but RW shows up again!

9) Alabama/Is the Magic Still There? - the only country I own and only because of their name

10) Third Day/Thief - still building up my collection of Christian music...this is an awesome song! New category for today: lyrics winner.

I am a thief, I am a murderer, walking up this lonely hill.
What have I done? I don't remember. No one knows just how I feel;

And I know that my time is coming soon.

It's been so long, oh, such a long time, since I've lived with peace and rest.
Now I am here, in my destination, I guess things work for the best;
And I know that my time is coming soon.

Who is this man? This man beside me, That they call the King of the Jews.
No, they don't believe, that He's the Messiah, But, somehow I know that it's true.

They laugh at Him in mockery, They beat Him till he bleeds,
They nail Him to the rugged cross, And they raise Him, yeah, they raise Him up next to me.

My time has come, and I'm slowly fading, But I deserve what I receive.
Jesus, when You are in Your kingdom, Could You please, please remember me.
Well He looks at me still holding on, And the tears fall from His eyes,
And He says I tell the truth, Today, yeah, you will live with Me in paradise, woah yeah.

And I know that my time, yes my time, is coming soon, woah yeah.
And I know that my time, yes my time, is coming soon, woah yeah, yeah
And I know that paradise, paradise is coming soon.

Friday and the Random 10

It's that time again folks! Set that Ipod (if you have one that wasn't stolen Scott..sorry), mp3 player or media player to random and list the first 10 songs that pop up, no matter how embarrassing. Sometimes theres a theme...sometimes theres a pattern....other times it makes no sense. At the very least it can give you an insight into what kind of music I like.

And away we go...

1) The Mars Volta/Aberinkula - this music was recommended to me but I just cant seem to get into it

2) YES/We Can Fly From Here - this is actually the 1980 version (basically a Buggles song) that the new CD is based on. This was a weird time period for YES: no Jon Anderson singing, no Wakeman on keyboards...you know, kinda like right now...

3) AC/DC/What Do You Do For Money Honey - classic album cover here

4) The Beatles/I've Just Seen a Face - yes I have taste

5) Red Hot Chili Peppers/Skinny Sweaty Man - man they seem to show up alot compared to how little of their music I actually have

6) Third Day/Creed - getting into them more and more

7) Alabama/Gulf of Mexico - about the only country music I have but it's Alabama...nuff said

8) AC/DC/Got You by the Balls - Again!

9) Alabama/40 Hour Week - again?...how bout this for the video winner?

10) Cyndi Lauper/Hole in my Heart (All the way the China) - I was a child of the 80's ya know...play us out Cyndi!
