Friday and the Random 10

Another week, another brush with randomness. And I can't believe it's June already! Where has this year gone? Maybe this week's theme will be something about time. Let's see, shall we?

1) Genesis/Just a Job to Do - sweet, back when they were really really cool

2) Billy Joel/Pressure - ah, Mr William Joel shows up again...

3) Kutless/Redeemer - and now for some Christian rock. You know, I've tried but I just can't get into it. I mean some of it is good but it's all about the same thing. I mean that gets a big "DUH" but how many ways can you sing about the same topic?

4) AC/DC/Safe in New York City - had never heard this one but it's AC/DC so it's good

5) U2/I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - live version that I will probably delete

6) Journey/Majestic - guitar piece by Neal Schon that opens this epic album:

7) Van Halen/Hang 'em High - classic Roth and the boys

8) Kraftwerk/Neon Lights - electronic synth pop...oh boy!

9) Third Day/Blind - more Christian music if it was done by Hootie and the Blowfish...at least that what it sounds like to me

10) Journey/Someday Soon - when Journey was really good...see #6...another album, cover winner:

The Spinal Tap Commemorative Song for this week is Kansas/Two Cents Worth. Not Bad. play us out with that classic video Billy!

Friday and the Random 10

Another Friday, another list. I'm not feeling very wordy today so i'll just get right down to it.

1) King Crimson/Starless and Bible Black - nice way to start..I've still got alot to explore in their music

2) Styx/Come Sail Away - live version from Caught in the Act...awesome but not quite as awesome as studio

3) Kansas/Andi - another song from that transition love song singing Kansas...which is why they really didnt survive the 80's either...

4) YES/Solly's Beard - technically the Trevor Rabin steel guitar piece from 9021Live the Solos

5) Third Day/Mama - Christian band that still sounds like Hootie to me...

6) Pink Floyd/Dont Leave Now - I'm not as high on them as some people are...pun intended

7) Camel/Send Home the Slates - yeah, I dig 'em

8) The Black Eyed Peas/Where Ya Wanna Go - I got some phunk in me from time to time

9) Francesca Battistelli/It's Your Life - Christian singer who's really nice to look at...

10) Apollo 440/Suitcase '88 - these guys are beyond cool

Alot of big names in the list this week. The Spinal Tap Commemorative Song this time around is YES/Rhythm of Love (Remix), back when every song had a dance remix....<puke>.

Only thing worthwhile to play us out is some Trevor...not from the same album, but video of a live performance...you're welcome Laurie!

Friday and the Random 10: Trying Harder Seems the Only Way to Go

Well here I am, another Friday and it's been a weird week. From going from a potential disaster at my workplace with my ex transferring to my department to the clutch going out on my truck, it's been a real crappy week. But here I am anyway. Might as well go with the randomness and hope for a change in my fortunes...

1) Rick Wakeman/The Glade -and we start with a piano piece from one of RW's 2,154 solo albums during the 80's-90's...this is actually a nice sounding piece...calms my nerves a bit

2) Glass Hammer/The Mirror Cracks - another instrumental piece from a new band i'm giving a listen to

3) Billy Joel/To Make You Feel My Love - and the moodiness continues

4) Jon Anderson/Unlearning (The Dividing Line) - from his Animation solo album which sounds soooo 80's

5) Eurythmics/Love is a Stranger - yes, yes it is

6) Francesca Battistelli/Blue Sky - well finally a pick-me-up song...I do believe she played Night of Joy this year at Disney

7) Jon Anderson/Some are Born - this was a YES demo song that ended up on Jonjon's Song of Seven..bonus lyrics...
Some are born to run
Some are born to fly
Through the echoes of the feelings drawn in everyman
Some are born to lose
Some are born to try
Trying harder seems the only way to go
Trying harder seems the only way to go

8) Third Day/Mama - sorry Cat, but they still sound like Hootie & the Blowfish to me  :-(

9) Chicago/Street Player - Chicago, yes! Horn section, yes! Disco? Oh Hell No!

10) Styx/Southern Woman - finally a song with a decent album cover

Well I guess i'm not in a great mood and it kinda show up in the songs. The Spinal Tap Commemorative Song for this week is Enigma/Back to the Rivers of Belief. Wow, nice.

Until next time, trying harder seems the only way to go...

Bamageddon and the Random 10

I didn't get time to post this yesterday so i'm going to take care of it today. And today is a special day: Alabama vs LSU, #1 vs #2, good vs evil, etc. Some are calling today a game for the ages. I am calling it Bama-geddon <deep scary echoing voice>.

So anyway, I'm calling on the football gods and the gods of chance and randomness to give me a killer awesome Top 10 to take me into tonite's clash. Bring it on!

1) Daft Punk/Victory - hell yeah, is that an omen? From the Tron soundtrack.

2) Porcupine Tree/Strip the Soul - that's what Bama will do to the LSU players

3) Red Hot Chili Peppers/I Could Have Lied - nice mellow song

4) Jon Anderson/Everybody Loves You - but I love you just a little bit more...

5) Journey/In My lonely Feeling/Conversations - talk about some great old Journey! Gonna share this one:

6) Cyndi Lauper/I Drove All Night - for such a quirky person she certainly has an amazing voice

7) Third Day/I've Always Loved You - for Cat, not that she reads this or cares the way I do

8) Chicago/Loneliness is Just a Word - great early Chicago (mandatory album cover below)

9) Aerosmith/Back in the Saddle - back to #1 where we belong!

10) The Rolling Stones/Miss You - wow, alot of songs about missing, loving and being lonely but that conversation is for another time...I'll stick to the VICTORY and left Daft Punk play us out...
ROLL TIDE!

Friday and the Random 10

Another Friday has come upon us! And without any pomp or circumstance let's get right down to business in revealing this week's random 10.

1) King Crimson/Lizard - awesome! This might be the winner for every category today. Jon Anderson from YES on vocals too...

2) King Crimson/The Mincer - 2 in a row? This is going to be a good weekend...

3) The Beatles/Things We Said Today - classic

4) Toto/Hold the Line - we may have a video winner here.

5) Areosmith/Love in an Elevator - never mind, definite video winner for many, many reasons.

6) Camel/Captured - and there's Camel showing up again with their smooth sounds...

7) Third Day/San Angelo - lyrics winner

Forever seems so distant
Much further than today
You turn around and in an instant
You find that you are just as far from yesterday
The day it feels like winter
The night it feels like stone
You turn around and you remember
When you're surrounded
You can still feel so alone

8) Chicago/Skin Tight - classic jazzy Chicago before the wimpy years

9) Chicago/Caravan - from a big bang cd they made after the 80's that didnt actually suck

10) Queen/Don't Stop Me Now - play us out guys!

Friday and the Random 10

Well here we go again! Another week gone by and time for another popular mostly ignored Random Top 10 blog post. Dosnt matter to me...I like doing them. Gonna skip the rules and get right into it!

1) AC/DC/Beating Around the Bush - I'm thinking I should start every morning with some AC/DC...what a great way to start the day and get you going!

2) The Beatles/Yellow Submarine - wow, this is gonna be stuck in my head all day now...maybe something will come along and knock it out...but at least it gives me the album cover winner

3) Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers/I Won't Back Down - good ole southern boy

4) Red Hot Chili Peppers/My Friends - ok, now I'm kinda getting tired of them since they show up so much

5) Aerosmith/Livin on the Edge - this is the live version but who cares, you get a video

6) Camel/Wait -this is a cool jazzy kinda band

7) Esquire/To The Rescue - great voice but i think she way over-sings sometimes...bonus video

8) Rick Wakeman/The Colossus of Rhodes - now my week is complete...lol, old joke but RW shows up again!

9) Alabama/Is the Magic Still There? - the only country I own and only because of their name

10) Third Day/Thief - still building up my collection of Christian music...this is an awesome song! New category for today: lyrics winner.

I am a thief, I am a murderer, walking up this lonely hill.
What have I done? I don't remember. No one knows just how I feel;

And I know that my time is coming soon.

It's been so long, oh, such a long time, since I've lived with peace and rest.
Now I am here, in my destination, I guess things work for the best;
And I know that my time is coming soon.

Who is this man? This man beside me, That they call the King of the Jews.
No, they don't believe, that He's the Messiah, But, somehow I know that it's true.

They laugh at Him in mockery, They beat Him till he bleeds,
They nail Him to the rugged cross, And they raise Him, yeah, they raise Him up next to me.

My time has come, and I'm slowly fading, But I deserve what I receive.
Jesus, when You are in Your kingdom, Could You please, please remember me.
Well He looks at me still holding on, And the tears fall from His eyes,
And He says I tell the truth, Today, yeah, you will live with Me in paradise, woah yeah.

And I know that my time, yes my time, is coming soon, woah yeah.
And I know that my time, yes my time, is coming soon, woah yeah, yeah
And I know that paradise, paradise is coming soon.

Friday and the Random 10

It's that time again folks! Set that Ipod (if you have one that wasn't stolen Scott..sorry), mp3 player or media player to random and list the first 10 songs that pop up, no matter how embarrassing. Sometimes theres a theme...sometimes theres a pattern....other times it makes no sense. At the very least it can give you an insight into what kind of music I like.

And away we go...

1) The Mars Volta/Aberinkula - this music was recommended to me but I just cant seem to get into it

2) YES/We Can Fly From Here - this is actually the 1980 version (basically a Buggles song) that the new CD is based on. This was a weird time period for YES: no Jon Anderson singing, no Wakeman on keyboards...you know, kinda like right now...

3) AC/DC/What Do You Do For Money Honey - classic album cover here

4) The Beatles/I've Just Seen a Face - yes I have taste

5) Red Hot Chili Peppers/Skinny Sweaty Man - man they seem to show up alot compared to how little of their music I actually have

6) Third Day/Creed - getting into them more and more

7) Alabama/Gulf of Mexico - about the only country music I have but it's Alabama...nuff said

8) AC/DC/Got You by the Balls - Again!

9) Alabama/40 Hour Week - again?...how bout this for the video winner?

10) Cyndi Lauper/Hole in my Heart (All the way the China) - I was a child of the 80's ya know...play us out Cyndi!
