Me and my journey through life, from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows and all wacky, funny, deep, depressing and interesting points in between. My interests are varied from one end of the spectrum to another. Basically, the disappointing side of mediocre.
Happy Good Friday everyone! Or is it just Good Friday to you all? I don't know the best way to say it and surely don't want Catholics mad at me. Either way, you know what day it is. Quick Von, distract them with music. Hey look down there:
Okay so I have been trying to decide what I wanted to do special for the Halloween version of the Random 10. My first thought was to expand it to thirteen for all the triskaidecaphobics out there. Then I realized that I reserve that for the Friday the 13th's that roll around occasionally. My only other option (since it is the last day of October) was to just go ahead and hit everyone with 31 songs. Consider it a giant grab bag of candy. I am sure everyone will find something that they like.
The IT Crowd - Funniest British show I have ever seen. Started re-watching all of them just for the material.
The Walking Dead - Just plain pissed at the latest episode. Nothing happened. Again. Waste of time. Doctor Who - Easter is coming. Run you clever boy...
How I Met Your Mother - I wish I could buy Barney's apartment!
Community - I'm all caught up on seasons 1-3 now. Things make sense. I wanna be in the class The History of Ice Cream though. And join the Delta Cubes fraternity. Get your damn hand off my Let's potato chips!
New Girl - If a jellyfish ever stings me on my face, I will never ask anyone to pee on me. Jess and Nick are so gonna do it, if they don't beat each other senseless first. Always buy quick hardening calk. You don't want to have to wait forever for that calk to harden.
Movies - So I watched the remake of Red Dawn. My first thought was "Wow we're gonna win. We have Thor!" Then I saw the fat kid from Drake and Josh (Drake? Josh? Bueller???) and lost all confidence. The movie was good but ruined by the previously named fat kid who kept pining after his girlfriend (who was so out of his league). Kudos for having C Thomas Howell as a Marine, but the original was so much better. Instead of the Russians, it was the North Koreans this time. This is why I'm against gun control! They said in the movie that it was free from Alabama on upwards. That's because we had more guns than those sneaky bastards. I also watched The First Time which was a cute teen young love movie (don't judge me) and Bridesmaids because I had a friend who hadn't seen it yet. Still funny the second time around. Also you can check my review of Doomsdayhere.
Music - One day I was walking around and I started singing "We are all part of the rhythm nation" and I'm like whut? So I downloaded some Janet. Yeah. Added some Cyndi Lauper too.
Sports
Braves - They have an 18-12 record in spring training with opening day in a week. Looks like Teheran has nailed down the 5th starters spot. Still waiting to see if Gattis makes the team.
Bama basketball - So in the first round of the NIT (where Bama got a #1 seed) they beat Northeastern 62-43. Then they topped Stanford in the second round 66-54. They will host Maryland in the third round on Tuesday. Roll Tide!
P.S. And do not forget to recommend this blog continues.
It's Friday the 13th, one of my favorite days, you know, because i'm weird that way. So this week I'm going to expand the random list for more awesome randomness. Let's get started!
1) Jon Anderson/Christy - this is from his Jon with Others CD, and it sounds bad...like demo in a basement bad...this is with John Paul Jones, whoever that is
2) Billy Squier/The Stroke - no words needed...immediate video required
3) Saga/No Stranger (Chapter 8) - back to back weeks with the Canadian rockers!
4) Kitaro/A Drop of Silence - A Japanese composer/new age musician...good stuff
5) Beethoven/Coriolan Overture - yeah, I'm deep like that
6) Prince/Baby I'm a Star - from that Rain CD, Purple or something...
7) Journey/Edge of the Moment - trying to sound alot like the Escape/Frontiers era...sometimes the magic is gone and you cant bring it back no matter how hard you try
8) Cyndi Lauper/I Drove All Night - ahhh Cyndi...
9) Boston/My Destination - side one of Third Stage is an epic masterpiece...
10) Styx/High Enough - yes, this is the Damn Yankees song, but the Styx version from the CD Regeneration...you know, since Tommy seems to have written it and was/is in both bands
And now to the bonus tracks...
11) Billy Squier/My Kinda Lover - holy effin crap! My train buddies know I was channeling my inner Squier this past week and now he's shown up twice!
12) Survivor/Everlasting - wow, was there a better album in 1984 for chicks than Vital Signs?
And Lucky 13 is.... drum roll please...
13) Saga/On The Loose - speechless....PLAY US OUT!
Another week, another Friday night at home. Le sigh.. Anywho, it gives me time to do another Random 10 (and there was much rejoicing in the village!). Ok, yeah I'm in a weird mood tonite so I guess I'll just get this thing done. Here we go:
1) Anthrax/N.F.B. - seriously funny song...I gotta find this on youtube...yes!...I wont ruin the ending!
2) Styx/Fooling Yourself - nuff said, best song by them ever. Killer album cover too:
3) Steve Winwood/The Finer Things - he was really big there in the 80's for awhile...great songs...
4) Apollo 440/Escape to Beyond the Planet of the Super Ape - ummm, yeah I dont know either
5) Cyndi Lauper/Money Changes Everything - yes it does.
6) Black Sabbath/Paranoid - the Ozzman singeth!
7) Bill Joel/An Innocent Man - I love this song because I can so sympathize with it. It does seem I bear the burdens of the females in my life being hurt by someone else. It wasn't my fault, but I have to pay the price for it. So many relationships that could have worked out if only someone else hadn't hurt them before they got to me. It's just my luck every time, and yeah, it sucks...
8) Daft Punk/Outlands Pt.II - from the Tron Legacy soundtrack
9) Eurythmics/The Miracle of Love - didnt know I had this and certainly never heard it before
10) Led Zeppelin/Custard Pie - you know, I just aint that crazy about Zep as some people seem to be.
Well there it is once again. Make what you want of it. I kind of went off there a little bit on the Billy Joel song, but eh, some things just come flowing out sometimes.
Oh, and the Spinal Tap memorial song for this week would have been: REO Speedwagon/Movin'.
Today is a very special day for the Random 10. It's Veteran's Day and also 11-11-11 (yes I will be rejoicing at 11:11am and 11 seconds). So in honor of our veterans, today's date, Pocky (Wendy will get that), The Big Ten conference (which has 11 teams) and Spinal Tap, I give you this week's Random 10 +1.
1) Boston/Can'tcha Say You Believe in Me - winner right out of the gates...as a matter of fact, everyone gets and album cover today!
2) Christina Aguilera/Hurt - no idea I even had this
3) The Commodores/The Human Zoo - yeah that's right, they're from Alabama
4) Kitaro/Symphony of the Forest - new agey, moody kinda music I never gave much listen to
5) Cyndi Lauper/Time After Time - her best song
6) YES/Countryside - a bonus track from the Tormato times....it just doesnt fit in with the album, and neither does the album cover
7) The Beatles/You've Got to Hide Your Love Away - good advice
8) The Mars Volta/Concertina - I tried to get into this but just couldnt
9) The Beatles/Nowhere Man - another classic and appropriate song
10) Enigma/In the Shadow, In the Light - now this music I love
11) Chicago/Life is What it is - this is like their soft jazzy disco album...yeah it sucks and is a terrible way to end this week's list!
Oh well, that was kind of a let down , but at least i can let Boston play us out:
I didn't get time to post this yesterday so i'm going to take care of it today. And today is a special day: Alabama vs LSU, #1 vs #2, good vs evil, etc. Some are calling today a game for the ages. I am calling it Bama-geddon <deep scary echoing voice>.
So anyway, I'm calling on the football gods and the gods of chance and randomness to give me a killer awesome Top 10 to take me into tonite's clash. Bring it on!
1) Daft Punk/Victory - hell yeah, is that an omen? From the Tron soundtrack.
2) Porcupine Tree/Strip the Soul - that's what Bama will do to the LSU players
3) Red Hot Chili Peppers/I Could Have Lied - nice mellow song
4) Jon Anderson/Everybody Loves You - but I love you just a little bit more...
5) Journey/In My lonely Feeling/Conversations - talk about some great old Journey! Gonna share this one:
6) Cyndi Lauper/I Drove All Night - for such a quirky person she certainly has an amazing voice
7) Third Day/I've Always Loved You - for Cat, not that she reads this or cares the way I do
8) Chicago/Loneliness is Just a Word - great early Chicago (mandatory album cover below)
9) Aerosmith/Back in the Saddle - back to #1 where we belong!
10) The Rolling Stones/Miss You - wow, alot of songs about missing, loving and being lonely but that conversation is for another time...I'll stick to the VICTORY and left Daft Punk play us out...
It's that time again folks! Set that Ipod (if you have one that wasn't stolen Scott..sorry), mp3 player or media player to random and list the first 10 songs that pop up, no matter how embarrassing. Sometimes theres a theme...sometimes theres a pattern....other times it makes no sense. At the very least it can give you an insight into what kind of music I like.
And away we go...
1) The Mars Volta/Aberinkula - this music was recommended to me but I just cant seem to get into it
2) YES/We Can Fly From Here - this is actually the 1980 version (basically a Buggles song) that the new CD is based on. This was a weird time period for YES: no Jon Anderson singing, no Wakeman on keyboards...you know, kinda like right now...
3) AC/DC/What Do You Do For Money Honey - classic album cover here
4) The Beatles/I've Just Seen a Face - yes I have taste
5) Red Hot Chili Peppers/Skinny Sweaty Man - man they seem to show up alot compared to how little of their music I actually have
6) Third Day/Creed - getting into them more and more
7) Alabama/Gulf of Mexico - about the only country music I have but it's Alabama...nuff said
8) AC/DC/Got You by the Balls - Again!
9) Alabama/40 Hour Week - again?...how bout this for the video winner?
10) Cyndi Lauper/Hole in my Heart (All the way the China) - I was a child of the 80's ya know...play us out Cyndi!
