This Day in Music History: Foreigner/Foreigner (03/08)

Foreigner is the self-titled debut studio album by British-American rock band Foreigner, released on this day in 1977. The album went 5X Platinum and reached #4 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

It spun off a barrage of hit singles, including "Feels Like the First Time" (#4), "Cold as Ice" (#6) and "Long, Long Way from Home" (#20). It also features album tracks such as "Headknocker" and "Starrider", the latter of which features a rare lead vocal from lead guitarist and co-founder Mick Jones.

This Day in Music History: Foreigner/Foreigner 4 (07/02)

4, also known as Foreigner 4, is the fourth studio album by British-American rock band Foreigner, released on this day in 1981 on Atlantic Records. The album was an immediate smash worldwide, holding the #1 position on the Billboard album chart for a total of 10 weeks. It eventually sold over seven million copies in the United States alone.

The album had several singles hit the Billboard Pop Singles charts: "Urgent" (#4), "Waiting for a Girl Like You" (#2), "Juke Box Hero" (#26), "Break It Up" (#26), and "Luanne" (#75).

This Day in Music History: Foreigner/Double Vision (06/20)

Double Vision is the second studio album by British/American rock band Foreigner, released on this day in 1978. It sold over 7 million copies and reached #3 on the Billboard Album Chart.

It features the band's signature song "Hot Blooded", which peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. The title track "Double Vision" was also a major hit, peaking at #2. A third single "Blue Morning, Blue Day" (my fave) also charted and reached #15.

Friday and the Random 10 (Pokemon Go Edition)

So yeah, I think it is about time I mentioned the craze that is currently sweeping the nation: Pokemon Go. And, no I don't play it because, in the words of my friend Scott, "I'm a grown ass man". However, I knew it was going to be huge. How? Well I play another little app called Ingress, which is also developed by Niantic, just like Pokemon GO.

As a matter of fact, all the Pokemon locations (whatever they're called) are actually the locations of portals in Ingress. Like copied straight over. Ingress portals are near objects of art, parks, and historical areas (that's why you can catch Picazulu at places like the Holocaust Museum...it wasn't meant to be disrespectful, it's that it was considered an important location in the other game).

So right now I am working on combining this countdown with a list of the Top 10 Pokemon(s?...Pokemen?...Pokemai?) as told to me by my daughters Wendy and Lorelei. It will probably suck, but here goes:

This Day in Music History: Foreigner/Head Games (09/11)

Head Games is the third studio album by Anglo American rock band Foreigner, released on this day in 1979. It charted at #5 on the Billboard 200 chart, and has sold over five million copies in the US alone.

The album’s cover depicts a seemingly upset young woman (portrayed by actress Lisanne Falk) in a men's restroom. The cover art features the tiles of the five A-side tracks of Head Games as graffiti on the bathroom stall. Curiously, "Double Vision" is also seen written, a song not on the album, having been released on their previous album also titled Double VisionThe title track and "Dirty White Boy" were the album's big hits, peaking at #14 and #12, respectively.

Friday and the Random 10 (24 Hour Disney Day Edition)

And here we go again. It's the Friday before Memorial Day so what does Disney go and do to us again? Yep, it's that deal where we stay open for a whole 24 hours. I have a 13 hour shift, but at least I am not part of the overnight crew. So to honor all us hard working cast members I am going to copy what I did in this countdown from the previous over-nighter and do a Top 24 list, instead of top 10. Yeah it's one of those special event type things. Next week will return to normal (or for what passes for normal around here).

Even though it does not apply this week, you can still check out last week's Random 10 by following this link, or trying to figure out the artists from the cool picture below:

As always the rules and whatnot are up there ↑ at the top next to the Home tab.

Friday and the Random 10 (Friday the 13th Part II Edition)

Because of a cosmic coincidence we have yet another Friday the 13th just four weeks after the last one! Course it also has to do with February having 28 days and whatnot as well. The next and last one for the year is in November (I just checked). Who cares about the reason? It just means we get more bang for our buck today. The music count continues...

In keeping with the ever growing and evolving list of traditions around here, this countdown will feature not ten, but thirteen songs. But first, as a quick review of last week, you can follow this link, or try and figure out the artists from the cool picture below:

Friday and the Random 10 (Fab Four Edition)

Yes, yes I know I skipped last week. Unfortunately this year the 4th of July ('Murica!) landed on a Friday and for a Disney cast member that means no day off and a long shift. A very long shift. Usually 10-14 hours. Hope the rest of you choked on your barbecue...

So getting back into the swing of things I look back and see that Jimmy Buffett got banned so maybe there's a chance the Tarkus can show up. Lost? Check the rules and whatnot up top ↑ there and it will explain all.

Without further ado, let's rock this joint!

1) Kansas/Eleanor Rigby - Yeah the Beatles song. I'm not sure why they decided to remake this one. Doesn't work for me. One of my fave Beatles songs though.

2) The Beatles/Fixing a Hole - Wow, weird. From some album I can't remember.

3) Pink Floyd/Scarecrow - Here we go again. I'm just not getting it, granted this is way old school stuff from them.

4) Enigma/Feel Me Heaven - Always awesome.

5) The Beatles/Polythene Pam - Looks like a man, gets the Fab 4 banned for next week.

6) The Beatles/Ticket to Ride - Say goodbye to July now.

7) Steve Howe/Big Love - The guitar sections on this ended up on the Yes album Union (or Onion).

8) Styx/Show Me the Way - I think this is the last hit song DDY had with the band.

9) Daft Punk/Victory - From the Tron Legacy soundtrack.

10) Foreigner/Lonely Children - Great 70's rock from them. We all know what happened in the 80's. Ugh.

Well there we have it for another week. With all the Beatles showing up I was afraid I was having another media player glitch but it seemed to work itself out. They still get the monthly ban though. Dem rules is rules.

The STCS is Jimmy Buffett/Coast of Marseilles

Yay! Tarkus'd! Let's try that again. The STCS is now Rush/Lessons. Oh yes! I'm even going to give them the album cover winner:

As always stay cool (and dry) central Florida, and Roll Tide!

Might as well let them play us out as well.

Friday and the Random 10 (Sir Psycho Sexy Edition)

Blah. Exactly. I'm not exactly feeling it this morning, but I don't want to disappoint my two or three fans. Everybody say "ugh".

Once again, no one got banned last week so anything is possible. As usual the rules and whatnot are up there ↑ at the top.

Ready for the meh? Here it is...

1) Foreigner/Hot Blooded - Off to a good start. Classic.

2) Pink Floyd/One of the Few - Slow and creepy, about what you would expect.

3) Kansas/No One Together - Third classic band in a row. Album cover winner:

4) The Rolling Stones/Gimme Shelter - Shout out to Tabitha on this one.

5) Starship/Good Heart - Basic 80's crap.

6) Cherry Poppin' Daddies/We'll Always Have Paris - More rocking than swinging on this one. Eh.

7) Red Hot Chili Peppers/Sir Psycho Sexy - I hereby nominate this as my new nickname.

8) Jimmy Buffett/Domino College - Working vacation in a third word nation. I'll be studying the World Cup?

9) America/Daisy Jane - Because, 'merica.

10) The Cars/Moving in Stereo - Another great one.

I know I didn't start this one with great enthusiasm, but there were some really great songs this time around. Not "meh" at all. Maybe if I go into it next time with low expectations... Yeah.

So once again no one gets banned and the Tarkus might be dying a slow death. We'll need to feed that thing soon. The STCS for this week is Jimmy Buffett/Margaritaville. Ha! Ask and you shall receive! No blonde strangers next week (see what I did there?) And Jimmy, there's always a woman to blame.

As always stay cool and dry central Florida, and Roll Tide!

Play us out boys!

Friday and the Random 10 (2 Days to Vacation Edition)

Not much hoopla this time around. Just your basic top 10. I'm two days from vacation so I'm basically mailing this one in.

As usual the rules and whatnot are up there ↑ at the top. King Crimson got the ban last week so we won't be hearing from them.

Go!

Friday and the Random 10 (Oops I Skipped a Week Edition)

So last Friday just came and went and it never clicked in my head that I was forgetting something... until Sunday. Oops. As an excuse work has been all over the place and I've been working on a few other projects (the Refrigerator Magnet Challenge for one). I mean it's not like I haven't forgotten before.

So it's May now and I'm not even going to look at the last countdown. This one is all fresh. As usual the rules and whatnot are up there ↑ at the top.

Let's get jiggy with it!

Friday and the Random 10 (Making Memories Edition)

Time heals all wounds so they say. I'm hoping that seven days was enough to distance myself from last week's disappointment. This time has to be better. Couldn't be worse right? The Tarkus did show up, and Jon Anderson got banned.

As usual the rules and whatnot are up there ↑ at the top. Throwing on a positive face now and hoping for some good karma.

Let's rock this joint!

Friday and the Random 10 (Catcher in the Rye Edition)

So I've finally gotten my books that I ordered on my year long quest to read as many books as I can (and throw in a review or two as well). Right now I'm 30 or so pages into The Catcher in the Rye and I feel... I dunno...erratic? Maybe it's just the style of the writing, but I figured maybe it will have some effect on the outcome of this week's Random 10. You never know. Also, I hope I'm not on some CIA/FBI watch list now because of the book. Maybe they will see this all and understand I'm harmless. Mostly.

Friday and the Random 10

Well it's been a whole week since Halloween so you know what that means: Disney has gone into full Christmas mode. Thanksgiving? Never heard of it. The only turkeys around here are some of the songs that show up on the countdown. Like for instance, DDY went and got himself banned last week and Chicago got Tarkus'd three different times. This week? Hard to say, but we will see how it goes. Oh, and pass the mashed potatoes...
