In keeping with the ever growing and evolving list of traditions around here, this countdown will feature not ten, but thirteen songs. But first, as a quick review of last week, you can follow this link, or try and figure out the artists from the cool picture below:

The Beatles are the only inhabitants of Exile Island this week. This means they cannot appear in the countdown below.

1) Genesis/One of the Vine (Wind & Wuthering) - Here's some old school progressive Genesis. This was also the last album with Steve Hackett, who left to go solo.
2) Rick Wakeman/The Colossus of Rhodes (The Seven Wonders of the World) - RW! Guess what he chose as a topic for this album?
3) Big Bad Voodoo Daddy/Mr. Pinstripe Suit (Big Bad Voodoo Daddy) - I may be getting a little tired of the swing music I have. It may be removed from my inventory soon. Until then, swing on daddy-o!
The Beatles tried, and failed |
4) Rick Wakeman/Libra (Zodiaque) - Wow it only took him four songs to get banned for next week.
5) Yes/Total Mass Retain (Close to the Edge) - This was the single edit to the side long track of the album title song. I'm not sure I ever really liked it. Taking a section out of the middle just seemed pointless.
6) Rick Wakeman/The Flood (A Suite of Gods) - Wow. Just wow. This gets him banned for the rest of the month and, as a rule, this song gets deleted.
7) Billy Joel/Laura (The Nylon Curtain) - This totally sounds like an old Beatles song, minus the F-bomb.
8) Rush/Hand Over Fist (Presto) - This album had a few decent songs (not this one), but I could just never get into it.
9) Electric Light Orchestra/I'm Alive (Xanadu soundtrack) - I will not apologize for this one at all. I could have lied and said it was from a greatest hits album or something. Xanadu with ONJ ranks right up there with Sgt. Pepper's and the Bee Gees in my book.
10) Foreigner/Blue Morning, Blue Day (Double Vision) - Great great song from a classic album.
STCS) Van Halen/In a Simple Rhyme (Women and Children First). I think Spinal Tap would approve of this one.
12) Billy Joel/The Downeaster Alexa (Storm Front) - Back when Mr. William Joel wrote a lot of songs dealing with societal issues. Oh, and Exile Island awaits for thee...
Really Beatles? Did you think he wasn't looking? |
13) Journey/It Could Have Been You (Raised on Radio) - Yes, this is the album that has Randy Jackson on bass. Yeah the America Idol Randy Jackson. He is the man who killed Journey. Really (not really).

Well that will wrap it up for another week. The Beatles just could not take the hint so I am sending them out for the rest of March. RW too. Billy only gets one week though. I was kind of surprised that this Random 10 had bands that are basically well known. No scrubs around here this week.

As always stay warm and comfy wherever you are, and Roll Tide!
I'm gonna let Foreigner play us out!
Won't you see things my way...
