Friday and the Random 10 (Snowmageddon Edition)

The big news lately I guess has been the weather up north. Like OMG, it's like snowing...in winter! I bet it snowed this time last year too. Apart from having Jim Cantorgasms over the thunder snowstorm (okay, that was actually cool), down here in Florida it just doesn't seem like y'all live on the same planet as I do. I mean look at the 10 day forecast over there on the right. Over the weekend we are expected to be close to the 80's. And you know what? I hate it. Give me a freaking winter for at least a month please. I will trade you some of this sunshine and humidity for just a few inches of snow. I wish there was somebody we could talk to about this...

Anyway, I guess there is nothing I can do about that. What we can do is think happy thoughts and let the gods of randomness show favor upon us by blessing us with some great music for the soul. Last week was Friday the 13th, which is a day we celebrate around these parts. As a quick review, you can follow this link, or check out the cool picture below:

As always the rules and whatnot are up there ↑ at the top next to the Home tab.

Exile Island has become very deserted in 2015!

********************************************************************************

1) Daft Punk/Something About Us (Discovery) - This may be my only saving grace when it comes to coolness. I will take what I can get.

2) Bruce Springsteen/Brilliant Disguise (Greatest Hits) - I have never really been a big fan (or even a small one) of The Boss. I guess that would be apparent as I have to welcome him to the party. Sometimes you do not like someone because people tell you you're supposed to like him.

3) Billy Joel/Vienna (The Stranger) - Does he ever really do a bad song or album? I think not. The was the late 70's/early 80's period when he was really huge.

4) Rush/The Trees (Hemispheres) - You know, this is a great album by them that I think is mostly forgotten. This song is about arguments between different classes of trees. How awesome is that?!?

5) Chicago/Upon Arrival (Chicago XIV) - Oh here we go. Peter Cetera sings this song and it is a major prelude of the wimpiness that will follow.

6) Rush/Grand Designs (Power Windows) - This was back when Rush was very popular and less "metal" sounding than they are today. However, this does get them sent to Exile Island for showing twice in the same countdown.

7) Daft Punk/Voyager (Discovery) - Dangit, my coolness gets banned for a week. Wow, from the same album even. That does not happen often.

8) ABBA/When All is Said and Done (The Visitors) - So first of all, I am not ashamed of this one at all. Secondly, they wrote some very poignant songs about divorce as they were splitting up. I went through that as well and know what emotions are being felt.

9) Casting Crowns/Every Man (The Altar and the Door) - These guys haven't shown up in awhile. I know this is Christian music and all, but they sing real songs about real things. I could always connect with their songs on some level without feeling preached to.

10) Pink Floyd/Jugband Blues (A Saucerful of Secrets) - This is real old school Floyd. This song sounds like they are seriously trying to be The Beatles.

********************************************************************************

Okay now we are getting down to the nitty gritty. Both Rush and Daft Punk get sent to Exile Island, making them both ineligible for next week's countdown. Will we finally get to unleash the Tarkus? I cannot wait to find out (and to figure out how I am going to do that). But wait, more damage could be done by the STCS. One of those two may get banned for the rest of February. Let's see:

The STCS for this week is Dream Theater/Learning to Live (Images and Words). I still haven't put any decent time into their music yet. So the bannings stand at only one week. Don't know if anyone noticed, but I started including the album names as well. I thought it was a nice addition.

********************************************************************************

As always stay warm and comfy wherever you are, and Roll Tide!

I'm gonna let ABBA play us out because I am still not ashamed.

We're still striving for the sky
No taste for humble pie
