Survivor Season 38 Edge of Extinction Week 12 Recap

For Survivor's 38th season, 18 castaways (6 remaining) will be sorted into two groups as usual. However, this season introduces a new twist, wherein contestants who are voted off have an option to take a boat to an area known as the "Extinction Island", rather than leave the game permanently. Contestants then may either wait for an opportunity to re-join the main game, or may choose to leave the game at any point. The remaining contestants will initially be unaware of this twist. There are currently ten people on the island.

VATA

Rick pretends that the advantage he had was sent to him from the island, so no one else would look for things around camp. Some believed him, some didn't. Some kinda followed him around and Lauren even told him to fess up but she didn't buy his story. And not five minutes after being left alone, he actually found another idol. 

And then the fun began...

With the idol being found and everyone else following him around, he began a massive game of chase and hide & seek all over the island. He hid in clumps of trees and under fallen logs. If someone looked away for a split second, he would sprint out of sight. It was hilarious.

Reward Challenge (Helicopter Ride/food)

The challenge here was to get your two balls all the way through an obstacle course and then land both of them atop a perch. Nothing much dramatic happened as Gavin won and picked Victoria and Lauren to go with him.

In the discussions it was still Rick as the target still, followed by Julie as a backup plan..

Extinction Island

Not much going on here still, but they did receive the letters that they wrote themselves. They all read them alone as a spiritual pick me up. Apparently next week is when they all get their final chance back in the game.

Immunity Challenge

This was an obstacle one with a word puzzle at the end. They had to slide their pieces down a board shuffleboard style and then carry them in a stack, holding them together with two handles.

There were may drops and restarting. Rick got all his pieces to the end first followed by Aurora, Lauren, Victoria (I'm still playing Jeff!), Julie and Gavin. It didn't take Rick very long to solve it and win immunity

Winners: Rick (3), Aurora (2), Gavin (2), Julie

Tribal Council

Rick talked with Julie trying her to get the others to flip onto Aurora instead of her. He knew that was the only shot Julie had. Gavin and Victoria were not sold on that at all, but Lauren seemed in on it.

Before the vote, Ric said he wanted to take control of things for a change and said he has an idol and would play it on Julie. He never opened it up so everyone assumed he was bluffing because it was the same color paper as his last advantage. It was a good bluff though as he did not play the idol (so now everyone think it's fake and he doesn't have one). 

Julie got one vote. Aurora got the other five to be sent out. She chose the island as everyone else has.

*Hidden Immunity Idols

Lauren found hers in Week 2.

Aubry found one in Week 3 but got voted out and it no longer has power.

Wentworth found one in Week 5. She was voted out Week 9 so it no longer has power.

Rick was awarded a 1/2 idol as help to keep him back in the game from Extinction Island. He gave the other half to David in Week 6. It was used Week 8. He found another one in Week 11 and had to use it that week to save himself. He found another one this week.

**Secret Advantages

Ron found one on the boat in Week 1. It had to be played by Week 3 so it's no longer any good. He gave it to Rick in Week 11 as a ploy. Rick used it at that week's tribal to find it had no power.

Aubry was sent an extra vote from from Rick on Extinction Island in Week 5 ,but then got voted out and went to the island herself so hers is no longer and good.

Aurora was sent an extra vote from Aubry from Extinction Island in Week 7. She gave to to Gavin in Week 11 in case of a tie vote at tribal. I don't know if he kept it or gave it back.

David got and sent the advantage to Rick in Week 9 that he used to win immunity.
