Episode 3: Psy vs. Psy
The Case: Following the trail of a counterfeiter, the “Feds” show up in Santa Barbara with their own version of Lassiter and their very own “Shawn,” spawning a rivalry and causing our cast to ban together for the first time to save the integrity of the department and prove who has the better psychic.
From scene to scene Shawn is bested by the female psychic, and both he and Gus both find themselves out of the loop. Every time he has an insight, he rushes to the scene to find everyone already there.
After showing up at a meeting and finding themselves unwanted, Shawn drops a bomb that one of the notes was actually real money which got him back in the game. He then deduced that the counterfeiter must have run out of fake money and had to use some of his real currency. Therefore he needed somewhere to print more before leaving town.
They ended up at a hotel that was partly under construction, and zeroed in on a room that paid in cash, was not facing the ocean, and had refused room service. Inside they found items for printing money, but the other psychic was way off on the amount that was printed.
The next morning the counterfeiter is found shot dead from an apparent struggle with someone. With the case apparently over, Shawn is feeling bad about being bested until he realized the other psychic knew way too much about the victim. Shawn realized the reason they were always so close to catching him is because she was involved with him from the beginning. When he had printed out way much more money than she expected, she knew he was about to ditch her and leave. She confronted him and that's when he was shot. She was found with the rest of the money in her suitcase.
