Psych: Season 1 Episode 2 Recap (Spellingg Bee)

Thanks to a childhood spent with a family of cops, Shawn Spencer (James Roday) possesses an incredible photographic memory and notices seemingly insignificant details. These traits allow him to spend his jobless days providing the police with mystery solving tips - but his knowledge soon makes him a suspect. In order to clear his name, the unlikely sleuth declares he has clairvoyant abilities and launches his own investigative agency, Psych.

Episode 2: Spellingg Bee

New character alert! In the opening seen we meet Juliet (Jules!) in a diner in which Shawn tries to flirt with her during a sting operation which he figures out almost too late. Lassie rushes in to make the arrest and rolls his eyes at seeing Spencer.

Flashback Scene: Gus losing out in a 1989 spelling bee.

The Case: Potential sabotage at the National Spelling Bee being hosted locally at Santa Barbara. Gus is totally nerding out.

When a kid passes out during the competition and complains that his inhaler felt strange, Shawn and Gus are called in. It gets further complicated when an official falls to death from the balcony. When Gus uses his "super smeller" to detect a chemical residue on some food, foul play is suspected.

Shawn goes to his dad with a sample of the food, but he refuses to help unless he can finish a doghouse he started in 1989.


Pineapple Sighting: 



Flashback Scene: Shawn begging for a dog in 1989.

Inspecting the official's private box, Shawn discovers marks on the carpet where a camera tripod stood, focused on a contestant's dad. Watching him during the competition, they unravel how he had been cheating by relaying messages to his son through a fake inhaler.
