Survivor Season 38 Edge of Extinction Week 8 Recap

For Survivor's 38th season, 18 castaways (11 remaining) will be sorted into two groups as usual. However, this season introduces a new twist, wherein contestants who are voted off have an option to take a boat to an area known as the "Extinction Island", rather than leave the game permanently. Contestants then may either wait for an opportunity to re-join the main game, or may choose to leave the game at any point. The remaining contestants will initially be unaware of this twist. There are currently five people on the island.

VATA

Ron feels totally betrayed, and even pulled Gavin to the side to say what the hell man!?! Kama was in a position of strength and now they are fractured. Gavin has apparently gone to the other side. He even spoke with Julia about sticking with the same voting block.

Rick and David are trying to come back together even after voting separately, especially since they share an idol. They seemed to form an alliance with Julie/Ron and want to pull in another. They think Kama is done and would maybe be better off trying to pull in someone like Wardog. Ugh.

EXTINCTION ISLAND

Eric is here now, and he realizes he is with people he just sent there. With nothing to to do he calls it the "great slowdown". In his inner turmoil, he debates raising the flag to leave. Dude it's been one day. Reem has been there since Day 1.

Immunity Challenge

This challenge is the one where they stand on a beam, balancing a ball on a curved wooden bow. Drop the ball or fall off and you're out.

Wardog was the first to drop, followed by Julie in the first round. The next round saw Ron drop, followed by Rick, Aurora, Victoria, Lauren, Wentworth, and Julia.

Gavin barely outlasted David to win immunity.

Winners: Gavin, Julie, Aurora

Tribal Council

Back at camp, everyone immediately split into groups. Rick and David were left with Julia whom they hit up about breaking up the "Lesu 3" that have been together since the first day. They did the same with Gavin and Victoria.

Wentworth, Lauren and Wardog debate what would happen after they voted David out and decide maybe Ron is a better target right now. But they need votes so Lauren hit up Julia and threw Ron's name out there, but she wonders if she is being played.

The Kama 6 tried to come back together and were debating between David and Wentworth. Gavin was on the outs here because he's the only one wanting David out.

And then camp got quiet. Like eerily quiet. David's spider sense went and and figured it was him. Rick agreed. Kelley was getting paranoid too.

And then the discussion exploded at tribal! It was like nobody trusted anybody and it was a free-for-all for about ten minutes. Groups broke off, people went from side to side, voting plans were admitted openly, names were being thrown left and right, people were telling other to shut up...and Jeff just sat back and watched the whole thing.

When votes were cast, Rick played both halves of the immunity idol on David.

David got one vote which didn't count. Wentworth got one vote. The pendulum swung huge as Julia got the other 9(!) votes to be sent out. She chose Extinction Island of course.

So that leaves us with (total votes received in parentheses):

*Has a Hidden Immunity Idol
Lauren found hers in Week 2.
Aubry found hers Week 3 but got voted out and it no longer has power.
Wentworth found hers in Week 5.
Rick was awarded a 1/2 idol as help to keep him back in the game from Extinction Island. He gave the other half to David in Week 6. It was used this week.

**Has a Secret Advantage
Ron found his on the boat in Week 1. It had to be played by Week 3 so it's no longer any good.
Aubry was sent an extra vote from from Rick on Extinction Island in Week 5 ,but then got voted out and went to the island herself so hers is no longer and good.
Aurora was sent an extra vote from Aubry from Extinction Island in Week 7.
