Survivor: Kaoh Rong Week 1 Recap

This season of Survivor is called Brains vs. Brawn vs. Beauty. Eighteen players (3 tribes) are separated according the "talents" they use to succeed in life.

Now, first of all, let me say that I am in no way an expert in any kind of way about this show. Actually I am only a few seasons in, but I have seen the previous season in this format. This blog post is my way of helping me keep all things sorted out. So take it easy on me if I make mistakes.

Brains (Chan Loh)

First impressions: Peter is one of those "people are intimidated by my intelligence" jerks. No, you're an Obama look-a-like douche. Neal is an ice cream dude that looks out of place and hopes no one notices. Debbie is the jack of all annoyances. Aubry is a pale Bostonian who is severely out of her element on a tropical island. Joe is former FBI, and old. Liz is the cutest of this bunch.

From their first two days in camp it was already determined to be a young versus old alliance.

Brawn (To Tang)

Darnell sounds like he is one of those "tough inner city" guys that are wimps in the real world. Scot is a mountain of a man that used to play in the NBA. Jason is a bounty hunter that seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Ditto that for bodybuilder Cydney. Jennifer didn't do anything to stand out for me. Alecia aka "Blondie" is a skinny little chick who I have no idea how she made it on the brawn team.

Beauty (Gondol)

This is usually my favorite out of touch group. Julia is a 19 yr old college chick that won't last long. Nick thinks he's great looking but damn that nose. Plus his incisors would make Dracula jealous. Michelle did nothing to stand out for me. Caleb was previously on Big Brother so no way he wins. Anna definitely has the best boobs this season. And Tai is basically an Asian spider monkey that needs some Ritalin. He also got busted looking for an idol.

Immunity Challenge

The first challenge for this season was to: 1) swim and get your whole team into a boat, 2) dive down and untie four paddles, 3) paddle your boat to the beach and load it onto a frame, 4) put wheels on the boat and push/pull boat up to a mark with a rope attached to the front. One that was all done, it was puzzle time, or a dexterity challenge. Team choice.

Beauty was first to get everyone in the boat and secure all four paddles, followed by Brains. Darnell for Brawn lost the team's mask as he dove in the water, leaving them basically blind trying to untie the paddles. Big oops.

Beauty and Brains made it to shore first, but had a really hard time getting their respective boats in the cradle. This time it was Brains first, but Brawn made up a lot of time here and beat out Beauty to the marker. No one chose the dexterity challenge as everyone went for the puzzle.

Brains solved it first to get immunity and a large supply of fire making items. Beauty was next to get immunity also (and a flint). Brawn gets sent to tribal.

Tribal Council

It basically came down to two easy choices: Darnell screwed up the challenge by losing the mask, or Alecia who was basically useless. The first vote was a tie with each getting three votes apiece. Neither of them got to vote the next round, and Darnell received all four votes on the re-vote.

So that leaves us with (total tribal votes received in parentheses):

Brains (Chan Loh) - Peter, Neal, Debbie, Aubry, Joe, Liz

Brawn (To Tang) - Jennifer, Alecia (3), Scot, Cydney, Jason

Beauty (Gondol) - Tai, Nick, Anna, Michelle, Julia, Caleb
