NCAA Football
It's starting to get down to the nitty gritty part of the season now so I am just going to start focusing on the top ten teams. This is the first year that the top four teams will meet in a playoff (committee rankings announced every Tuesday). Well, this is what the Top 10 looked like before Saturday:
1 Mississippi State (46) 7-0 1486
2 Florida State (14) 7-0 1453
3 Alabama 7-1 1290
4 Auburn 6-1 1267
5 Oregon 7-1 1199
6 Notre Dame 6-1 1161
8 Michigan State 7-1 1086
10 TCU 6-1 1030
#7 Ole Miss 31, #4 Auburn 35. Called it and it's a major help for Bama, whose only loss is to Ole Miss. Win out and there's no worry about tie breakers. The Rebs second loss pretty much eliminates them. And that Treadwell thing was horrible. In the "what the Hell" department, Florida 38, #9 Georgia 20. If you saw that coming you are lying.
Bama had a bye week and faces #14 LSU this week. Just keep winning.
The playoff committee rankings do not reflect the polls and changed a bit with the Ole Miss loss. The top four make the playoffs. It looks like this:
1) Mississippi St 8-0
2) Florida State 8-0
3) Auburn 7-1
4) Oregon 8-1
*******************************************
5) Alabama 7-1
6) TCU 7-1
7) Kansas State 7-1
7) Kansas State 7-1
8) Michigan State 7-1
I stopped at eight teams because I am pretty sure this playoff system will be expanded at some point in the future and I was just curious what it would look like.
The games of note this week with major playoff implications and my predictions:
#5 Oregon @ #17 Utah - The ducks keeps rolling.
#9 Kansas State @ #7 TCU - Once again can the frogs play defense? I say K State wins a close one.
#16 Ohio State @ #8 Michigan State - Sparty wins and jockeys to be one of the best one-loss teams in the country.
#10 Notre Dame @ #14 Arizona State - ND gets eliminated, as if their pathetic schedule didn't do that for them already.
NFL
The Falcons had a week off after traversing across the ocean to lose in England. I don't even care as much as I did, which wasn't much.
I am not really an NFL guy but one thing that has kept me engrossed in it is an app called Topps Huddle. It is basically like opening packs of football cards (you earn coins daily to buy packs). With those cards you can compete for points by what that player does. Fun. My user name there is BamaVon.
I would also be remiss if I didn't mention Viggle here. You can earn extra points by checking into games and playing along making predictions. That's usually what I am doing all day Sunday.

MLB
World Series: Well that's over. Game 7 was a thriller, but the Royals just couldn't score against Bumgardner, who pitched like 137 innings of relief. Giants win. Meh.
Braves: Only news to report so far is the qualifying offer extended to Ervin Santana. If he accepts then he stays. If he doesn't then the team will get a draft pick compensation for losing a free agent to another team. This is an actual win/win either way I think.
Topps Bunt is the baseball version of the football app. Same scenario as above, but without the daily predictions. It's like virtual card collecting. I was heavy into this one (still am) but now that it is the off-season there's not much to do except get my daily packs and wait for spring training. Sigh.
