Friday and the Random 10 (Lateral Noise Edition)

Well as we approach another weekend it is time for a little bit of randomness. The new format seems to be working so I guess it's a permanent thing now. I'm still worried about the time it takes, but as long as I can keep my Friday's off I should be okay. That's not the case today, but I'm up early enough to get it done.

As a quick review of last week, you can follow this link, or check out the cool picture below:

As always the rules and whatnot are up there ↑ at the top next to the Home tab.

Also, we have our first exile of 2015.

********************************************************************************

1) Asia/Without You - I had previously written here about how Downes left The Buggles to form Asia with Steve Howe (and others). This is their debut album with a killer cover by, who else, Roger Dean. Not one of the hits, but still a great song from the album.

2) Badfinger/Lonely You - Wow, the history of this band is something else. You don't often hear about a band's argument with a record company that involves two suicides. Tragic stuff, but welcome to the countdown.

3) Wendy Carlos/We've Got Company - From the Tron (original) soundtrack. Even if it was the 80's, this was a cool sounding score. And yes, this is the same Wendy that used to be a dude.

4) The Beatles/Flying - Seriously, how scary is this album cover? It's slightly terrifying if you look at it. And how many drugs were they on during this time period. Oh, they were flying alright.

5) Madonna/Four Minutes - I have no idea what this song is, or basically any Madonna song after 1992.

6) Billy Joel/When in Rome - There are so many better songs off this album. This song almost doesn't even sound like him. If you had made me guess I wouldn't have been able to name the singer.

7) The Beatles/Strawberry Fields Forever - Because apparently it wasn't creepy enough the first time around. Apart from that, probably in the top five of my fave Beatles songs. Enjoy exile next week.

8) Pat Benatar/Hell is for Children - Obviously a song about child abuse. Oh Pat, you used to be so sexy. Why such a downer now?

9) Heart/Never - I just realized that these rockers survived the 80's even though they sang mostly love songs. How did they do that? Easy, they were women. See, Journey, Foreigner et al, that's why it was okay for them, but not you. (And did I just use et al in a sentence? I'm so sophisticated...)

10) Cherry Poppin' Daddies/You Better Move - There was a time period there where I liked some swing music. Not so much now.

********************************************************************************

Well there we have it. The Beatles get sent to Exile Island, but at least it will not be crowded if Opeth escapes (depending on the STCS).

The STCS for this week is God is an Astronaut/Lateral Noise. This is another one of those new bands I am giving a long listen to and liking what I hear. Everything else is basically that: lateral noise.

As always stay warm and comfy wherever you are, and Roll Tide!

Play us out boys!
