Survivor Season 36: Ghost Island Week 7 Recap

This is season 36 of Survivor. This time, twenty players (13 remaining) are competing in Fiji, and, for the first time ever, the show will revolve around a new game-changing element: the mistakes of castaways past, the talismans of which are scattered on a land dubbed Ghost Island.

Now, first of all, let me say that I am in no way an expert in any kind of way about this show. Actually I am only a few seasons in, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. This blog post is my way of helping me keep all things sorted out. So take it easy on me if I make mistakes.

The Merge!

Lavita

There can be only one tribe now: Lavita! At this point the original Naviti (Angela, Desiree, Kellyn, Domenick, Chelsea, Sebastian, Wendell, and Chris) outnumbers the original Malolo (Michael, Libby, Donathan, Laurel and Jenna) eight to five. But, that does not seem to matter. The only ones who brought that up were the Naviti girls who talked about targeting Libby if everyone was still going to vote along tribal lines.

Let's face it, this was all about Domenick versus Chris. In all fairness Domenick, along with Wendell tried to make peace with Chris and play the Naviti strong angle, but Chris wouldn't even give in an inch to that. Domenick is trying to play the big game, Chris is narrow minded and playing personal grudges.

Ghost Island

As everyone chose their seats  around the congratulatory merge feast, Chris noticed something funny about his new buff. He looked inside to find a invite to Ghost Island. However, the only way to get there was to sneak out of camp at night where a boat would be waiting for him. That was the first decision he had to make. The war with Dom made that easy.

He made it out of camp undetected and was boated to the island, all decked out in fire and torches. There he found an idol waiting for him (JT's from 2017 Game Changers). However the idol could only be played at the next tribal, unless it got a boost from five of ten bamboo containers, if he chose to keep playing. He did. He opened the first one which gave the idol a two week lifespan. However the next contained he opened said "NO VOTE", so he lost his vote at the next tribal, but kept the idol.

Individual Immunity Challenge

This challenge involved each person standing on a beam, holding a pole overhead with a statue balanced on the end. After certain time periods, everyone has to move further down the beam as it narrows.

1st round: Jenna dropped her statue first, followed by Donathan, Desiree, and Angela

2nd round: Sebastian was the only one to fall this time.

3rd round: The transition to the end of the beam took out Domenick, Michael, Chris, Laurel and Wendell. Then it was a waiting game.

Chelsea went down next. Libby fought hard but lost out to Kellyn who gritted her way through the whole thing.

Tribal Council

The battle lines had been drawn already. Which side would everyone come down on, or was another scheme at play? Chris had taken all non Dom/Wendell tribe mates to the watering hole to discuss options. Chris talked about splitting votes between Dom and Wendell to flush out any idols. However Donathan and Laurel are tight with the others so they told them that plan right away.

Everybody that had an idol was thinking about playing it because of how the votes could go so many different ways. Domenick put his fake idol around his neck right away at tribal and told everyone he was playing it.

After the votes were cast, neither Chris, nor Michael, nor Wendell played their idols. Domenick, however, busted out his Legacy Advantage and covered himself that way.

Libby got two votes. There was one "no vote". Everybody else was tired of Chris and he got ten (!) votes to be sent home, with an idol in his pocket. I mean, he had to be totally vain to not play it.

So that leaves us with (total votes received in parentheses):

Lavita: Angela (3), Michael*, Kellyn**, Desiree (2), Domenick*, Chelsea, Libby (4), Donathan (1), Sebastian, Laurel, Wendell*, and Jenna.

Voted out (in order): Gonzalez, Jacob, Morgan, Brendan, Stephanie, James, Bradley, Chris

*Has a Hidden Immunity Idol. Domenick found his idol in Week 1. Michael found one in Week 2 and played it in Week 3. Michael found his second and Wendell his first in Week 6. Chris got one on Ghost Island this week, but was voted out with it in his pocket.

**Has a Secret Advantage. Jacob willed it from Ghost Island to Morgan in Week 1. Morgan was voted out in Week 2, and willed it to Domenick, who used it this week.
Kellyn got hers from Ghost Island in Week 6.
