Survivor Season 36: Ghost Island Week 3 Recap

This is season 36 of Survivor. This time, twenty players (17 remaining) are competing in Fiji, and, for the first time ever, the show will revolve around a new game-changing element: the mistakes of castaways past, the talismans of which are scattered on a land dubbed Ghost Island.

Now, first of all, let me say that I am in no way an expert in any kind of way about this show. Actually I am only a few seasons in, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. This blog post is my way of helping me keep all things sorted out. So take it easy on me if I make mistakes.

Malolo

The Naviti 5: Desiree, Kellyn, Sebastian, Bradley, and Chelsea.

The Outnumbered Malolo: Stephanie, Jenna, Brendan, and Michael.

This is basically the only way to describe this camp right now. As a matter of fact, we did not even see any footage from this camp at all this week.

Naviti

The new guys from Malolo: Donathan, my Ghost Island crush Libby, Laurel and James.

Naviti that stayed Naviti: Domenick, Chris, Angela, and Wendell.

This is tribe is split down the middle. Angela was pissed at Wendell/Domenick for writing her name down at last tribal. Add to that the 4 Malolo voting block and things do not look good for either of them. All they could do was confide in each other so Domenick told Wendell he has a real idol. Dom also discovered the Legacy Advantage left to him by Morgan so he brightened up knowing he at least had some kind of ammo going forward.

Reward Challenge/Ghost Island

This was a challenge used previously where it was basic warfare in the water. Last time they did this one I thought someone was going to die. In teams of two you had to swim out and retrieve a ring, and then swim it back to your home base, or pole. So basically one guy has the ring while the other three are pushing, pulling, dunking, drowning each other towards one goal or the other. It's glorious.

Naviti won the pb&j plus cold milk, three goals to one. Of all people, Laurel was an absolute beast in the water, scoring twice for Naviti.

Ghost Island - The twist this time is that someone got picked by the winning team after the Reward Challenge, but would return in time for Tribal. They went the route of the rocks again, and as Kellyn drew hers and told Jeff that this was her biggest fear, you knew she was going to pull the white rock. You just knew it. She did.

She pulls the "Game On. Follow the Fire." from the urn and is given the same choice Jacob had in Week 1: play to gain an advantage but risk losing your vote. Since she is part of the "Naviti 5", she chose not to play to keep the balance of power back at camp.

Immunity Challenge

This one involved many parts as usual. Everyone had to swim out to a wooden cage and climb over/dive in. Then diving down, there was a door that had to be untied to open. Once that was done, there was a large chest on the bottom which had to be maneuvered to shore. Once that was done it was put on a track and slid to the other end. However at once point a piece of the track had to be pulled into place by snagging it with a rope. Once the whole thing was at the end, there was one more task.

I am going to stop here and let it be known that Malolo was first in every one of these at this point. The last part involved getting balls out of the chest and shooting them where they stop on an overhead tract.

Malolo led 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, 2-0 (after accidentally knocking a ball off), 3-0, 3-1 (Naviti finally shows up), 4-1, 4-2, 4-3, 4-4 (tied!), and then loses at the very end 4-5. #NeverGiveUp #NeverSurrender

Malolo somehow goes to tribal.

Tribal Council

Remember back when Kellyn decided to save her vote? Good call. The Naviti 5 were locked in to their plan of voting out one of the guys until...

Michael pulled out his immunity idol. He proclaimed it was from the time someone went home with two idols so to "reverse the curse" it had double immunity and would protect two people! At this point I thought it was a brilliant lie. However I am still not sure if that was accurate or not. I still cannot confirm that this is how that idol worked.

Michael added that his four were all voting for Bradley, and if anyone felt they were on the bottom of their alliance, ahem Sebastian and Chelsea, that this was there time to flip over and make their move. It was very bold.

After voting Michael played the idol for himself, and Stephanie (?). I still do not know if it had double protection because it was split 4-4 between Bradley and Brendan when Brendan got the last vote to be sent home.

So that leaves us with (total tribal votes received in parentheses):

Malolo: Michael, Jenna, Stephanie, Kellyn, Chelsea, Desiree, Bradley (4), Sebastian.

Naviti: James, Laurel, Wendell, Chris, **Domenick*, Angela (3), Libby (1) and Donathan (1).

Voted out (in order): Gonzalez, Jacob, Morgan, Brendan

*Has a Hidden Immunity Idol. Domenick found his idol in Week 1. Michael found one in Week 2 and played it this week.

**Has a Secret Advantage. Jacob willed it from Ghost Island to Morgan in Week 1. Morgan was voted out in Week 2, and willed it to Domenick.
