Friday and the Random 10

Well that time is once again upon us peeps! Time to roll the dice and chance the hands of fate by turning the controls of media player over to the gods of randomness. Will they be kind to us? Or will they make me an object of ridicule? Will I be a man or a mouse? There's only one way to find out, so here we go!

1) Rick Wakeman(!)/Angel Falls - Apparently his album about his tribute to water. He hasn't shown up for quite awhile. If you don't know the joke with him, check out the size of his discography, particularly in the 90's. If there was a topic, he did an album about it.

2) Kansas/I Counted On Love - The follow up album to Power, which had its moments but wasn't as good.

3) The Moody Blues/Meet Me Halfway - Sounds exactly like you think it would.

4) Brittany Spears/Piece of Me - Here, take my man card. Time to break out the new award. Britney, this song has fallen to the Cybermen.

5) Chicago/Prelude to Aire - Little jazzy intro on Chicago VII. Album cover winner for the third time, therefore I think it goes into retirement after this.

6) YES/Roundabout - Finally some redemption! I'm in the middle of covering this album right now. Check out Side 1, which includes this song, right here.

7) The Human League/All I Ever Wanted - So 80's, which makes it awesome by default.

8) Sammy Hagar/Two Sides of Love - Welcome to the party pal! First appearance!

9) The Moody Blues/To Share Our Love - Meh. Almost sounds like it's from the 50's.

10) Fleetwood Mac/Gypsy - Was there ever a more perfect song for Stevie Nicks than this? Classic.

Could have been better I guess. I lost my man card, we broke out a new award, retired an album cover, and welcomed a new artist. That's actually quite a lot for one week. The Spinal Tap Commemorative Song (STCS) is Jon Anderson/Hurry Home (Song for the Pleiades).

Friday and the Random 10

Yes, it's that time again boys and girls (especially the ladies...) for another dance with the gods of randomness. So set that miscellaneous music device to random and let the chips fall where they may!

1) Styx/A.D. 1928 - The reprise of the Best of Times theme to close out the Paradise Theater album. Yeah, this one:

2) Starcastle/Forces - Basically, the American version (or attempt) of Yes. I do like their music though.

3) Korn/I'm Done - Well that was a mood changer.

4) Chicago/Cry for the Lost - From the Stone of Sisyphus album, which had an interesting history of being rejected by the record company for 15 years. The love song 80's really killed this band, but yall know my theories on that.

5) Genesis/Home by the Sea - They were awesome during the 80's/90's

6) Yes/Siberian Khatru - Live version from The Word is Live. Interesting collection of concert performances from them , but I prefer the studio stuff. And nobody seems to know what a "khatru" is.

7) Pink Floyd/Shine on You Crazy Diamond - You know, I never cared much for PF (maybe because I'm not a pot-head), but I have given them a try. I read up on them and this song dealing with the nutbag of Syd Barret. Crazy diamond indeed...

8) Britney Spears/Circus - Move along, nothing to see here. Let's pretend you never saw this one.

9) Def Leppard/Answer to the Master - Early stuff before they were huge. I didn't even recognize this one.

10) Yes/Starship Trooper - Another live version from somewhere. Doesn't sound like Jon is singing either. I need to delete some of this stuff.

Well that's it for another week and remember, groups should not hire new singers from tribute bands. Also, if you're a rock band, just because you have a hit with a love song doesn't mean every song from now until eternity has to be a love song (ahem, Chicago...and Journey...and too many others to list). Well hey hey! Two weeks in a row I'm all about the randomness. I bet you thought I would forget this week, well nope! What the deal is I'm gonna hit up 10 random songs from my inventory and list them out, no matter how embarrassing or stupid. Let's see if there is a theme this week and if there are any of my special award winners.

1) Extreme/Take Us Alive - I love these guys

2) Vivaldi/The Four Seasons (Spring) - yeah, I got some class...I ain't ashamed

3) Def Leppard/Run Riot - was there a better 90's album than Hysteria? I think not.

4) Yes/Saving My Heart - ugh, bad song from an album that could have been epic. And I'm not using them for the album cover winner because this album won last week.

5) Wendy Carlos/Tronaction - from the original Tron soundtrack. Ummm, yeah this Wendy person used to be a dude. Check it out here.

6) Michael Jackson/Give in to Me - downloaded some MJ recently. Never heard this one before.

7) Kansas/Power - a hugely underrated album

8) Sandy Farina/Here Comes the Sun - from the Sergeant Pepper's LHCB 1978 movie soundtrack with Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees. This movie is one of my guilty pleasures, right up there with Xanadu...

9) ABWH/The Meeting - live version of the perfect song. This song has so many deep meanings for me. Album cover winner and this poster is framed over the couch in my living room.

10) Britney Spears/Circus - ummm, what?

I cant end on that so the Spinal Tap Commemorative Song (STCS) this week is Journey/Anything is Possible. Yeah the new singer does NOT sound like Steve Perry. Stop getting these guys from tribute bands!
