Survivor Season 37: David Vs. Goliath Week 9 Recap

For Survivor's 37th season, 20 brand-new castaways (11 remaining) will be sorted into two groups: The Davids, who have scratched and clawed their way through life to prove themselves, overcome adversity, and earned everything they've got. And then there's the Goliaths, who come from a place of privilege and have capitalized on their advantage to crush the competition, be it in business, education, or the professional wrestling ring.

But social politics can change drastically when you're stranded on an island in the game of Survivor; as Jeff says, every Goliath has an Achilles heel, and every David has a secret weapon.

Now, first of all, let me say that I am in no way an expert in any kind of way about this show. Actually I am only a few seasons in, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. This blog post is my way of helping me keep all things sorted out. So take it easy on me if I make mistakes.

Kalokalo

Back at camp, Davie was pumped up at taking out Dan!

Kara, Alec and Allison talked and were worried about the Davids having secret advantages. They wondered if maybe they had stayed with Goliath strong for too long.

They were all split up into groups talking except for Dan. He wondered if him and Kara were still a thing. He was also upset that he had made a sacrifice at last tribal (his idol for Angelina), but now appears left out of the discussions.

Reward Challenge (Burger Bar)

The was between competing teams of five. Purple was Angelina, Allison, Christian, Gabby and Nick. Orange was Mike, Davie, Dan, Alex and Kara. Karl had to sit out.

Both teams raced over and under obstacles and then lifted someone up to untie a bag of tiles with numbers. Orange was able to use those tiles to figure out the combination of the next lock, which freed the puzzle pieces. Purple wasn't far behind though.

The last part was a snake puzzle, and even though Allison and Christian worked furiously at it, Kara and Alec finished first to win reward.

Everyone knows the main thing at rewards is that groups are split off and it gives different people to strategize. Gabby and Allison reconnected and talked about making a big move like Dan. When Davie walked away at the burger bar, the Goliaths started targeting Christian again.

Back at camp though Kara told Alec and Allison that Dan had another idol. See, this is why you don't tell anybody.

The Davids had a strategy of getting up before dawn and looking for idols as a group project. Then they would all be back at camp before breakfast and no one knew. Christian tried the logical approach and looked in "sectors". He would look in several places but not that in depth just to cover more ground. He found an idol.

Individual Immunity Challenge

Everyone had to go through a small obstacle and carry a ball on a paddle across a see-saw beam. Once you had all three, you had to maneuver them on a snake puzzle to drop in various notches.

The only ones to actually get all three balls over, in order, were Dan, Alec, Kara, Karl, Angelina and Allison. Then it was just who would finish first. It was Alec to win immunity.

Tribal Council

The mixed alliance was worrying about Dan having another idol, so they decided to split votes and write down Angelina. The Goliaths in the alliance were worried that the Davids agreed way too fast and feared they were being played. They might stay with Goliath strong since they still had the numbers.

The Davids had a small discussion where Nick told them about his advantage. Then Carl shared his. The Christian told them he had found the idol. Question was, how were they going to use them, and when was the right time to play them?

Before the vote, Nick used his advantage to steal a vote. He took Allison's. After everyone voted, Dan said eff this and played his second idol.

As Jeff was about to read the votes, he pulled the nullifier out of the pot. He turned it over and it read "Dan". Everyone was shocked.

Angelina got two votes. Christian got three votes. Dan, who played an idol and had it nullified, got six votes (counting Nick's twice), to be sent home.

So that leaves us with (total votes received in parentheses):

Carl, Davie (1), Kara, Alec, Allison, Christian* (10), Gabby, Mike, Angelina (6), and Nick

*Has a Hidden Immunity Idol.
Davie found one in Week 2, and used it in Week 8 on Christian.
Dan found one in Week 1 and Week 5, and used one of them on Angelina in Week 8, and the second one this week. It was nullified by Carl.
Christian found his this week.

**Has an Advantage
Carl got an "Idol Nullifier" on Exile Island in Week 4 and played it on Dan's idol this week.
Nick found the "Steal a Vote" in Week 8, and used it on Allison this week.

Voted out and on the jury: Elizabeth, John, Dan

Voted out (in order): Pat (injury), Jessica, Jeremy, Bi (injury), Natalia, Natalie, Lyrsa
