Survivor Season 37: David Vs. Goliath Week 1 Recap

For Survivor's 37th season, 20 brand-new castaways will be sorted into two groups: The Davids, who have scratched and clawed their way through life to prove themselves, overcome adversity, and earned everything they've got. And then there's the Goliaths, who come from a place of privilege and have capitalized on their advantage to crush the competition, be it in business, education, or the professional wrestling ring. 

But social politics can change drastically when you're stranded on an island in the game of Survivor; as Jeff says, every Goliath has an Achilles heel, and every David has a secret weapon.

Now, first of all, let me say that I am in no way an expert in any kind of way about this show. Actually I am only a few seasons in, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. This blog post is my way of helping me keep all things sorted out. So take it easy on me if I make mistakes.

David

The tribe is: Elizabeth, Carl, Nick, Davie, Pat, Bi, Lyrsa, Jessica, Gabby, and Christian. And they cry, like all the time.

Right off the bat, the target is always someone who doesn't help out at all setting up camp and pissing everyone off. That would be Nick.

Everybody else seemed to be working the social angles or finding partners like Elizabeth/Lyrsa and Gabby (The nerd whisperer)/Christian (who is basically the reincarnation of Woody Allen).

Davie actually caught an octopus for the tribe to eat. I've never heard the term "blerd" before. #Blerd #BlackNerd

Goliath

This tribe is : Jeremy, Alec, Alison, John, Dan, Mike, Natalie, Kara, Natalia, and Angelina.

The person who became a target for doing nothing and being bossy too (ugh) was Natalie. I mean c'mon have you never seen the show before? Know what else makes you a target right away? Looking for an idol too soon, too obvious. That would be Mike. He didn't find one, but Dan did!

Immunity Challenge

The first part of the challenge was between Alex and Carl. It was that digging out the sand and crawling under the log thing that creeps me out. Alex made it through first so he got to use the hatchet to cut the rope that drops the ladders. That allowed the rest of the tribe to head through the obstacle course. Once Carl made it through he had to untie knots instead to let down the ladders.

Goliath had the lead all the way through. At the end was a large puzzle where they had to push the tiles and get the numbers in order. David caught up and almost overtook them but ended up losing in the end.

Tribal Council

On the way back to camp (it had poured all during the challenge), they were all on the boat and the rough waters slammed the boat down hard. This injured Pat's back so bad that they had to medically remove him from the game...which prompted everyone in the tribe to start crying...again.

Tribal was cancelled since they were down a person. I saw that coming.

So that leaves us with (total votes received in parentheses):

Goliath: Jeremy, Alec, Alison, John, Dan*, Mike, Natalie, Kara, Natalia, Angelina
