Friday and the Random 10 Explained

The Rules: Set your iPod, mp3 player, or media player on random and list the first ten songs that pop up, no matter how embarrassing.

I always include an 11th song, the Spinal Tap Commemorative Award (11th, get it?). This came about when I would let the music continue playing as I typed and finished up, and the next song would be awesome. So this is how I included it.

Bannings: If someone shows up twice in the same countdown, then they are sent to Exile Island (it's a Survivor thing) and banned the following week. Three times gets a monthly ban. Sometimes they try to show up the next week, but I let the Tarkus take care of them:

This came about because of #8 in this countdown. It became a thing. Also, if you get "Tarkus'd", your banning gets extended for another week.

The current co-mayors of Exile Island are Rick Wakeman (6) and The Beatles (6), followed by Chicago (5), Yes (3), Rush (2), Billy Joel (2), Return to Forever, The Moody Blues, REO Speedwagon, Styx, Opeth, Daft Punk, Faith No More, and John Cougar Mellencamp.

I award songs if they're from an album with an awesome cover, have great lyrics, or have an awesome video.

* This was discontinued as I started using album covers for every song.

Rick Wakeman (RW) is a running joke. He is the keyboard player for Yes who made so many solo albums during the 80's and 90's (50+!), that by sheer numbers alone he should show up in every countdown. Also, DDY is Dennis DeYoung, former lead singer of Styx who got kicked out of the band. If everything wasn't a love song about his wife (puke), he might still be with them.

Viggle is a recognition app I use that gives you points for "checking in" with songs (and also TV shows). You can redeem the points for various things.

I welcome them if it's their first appearance on the list with this from Die Hard. The movie line is "Welcome to the party, pal!"

If it's a horrible sounding song, they get the Picard Award:

If it's so embarrassing or awful that I have to completely delete it, they get the Cybermen Award:

The "Warehouse of _____" is an homage to a phrase often used by a friend of mine (@hellokerra on Twitter), which was first used in this Random 10.
