Psych Season 1 Episode 8 Recap (Shawn vs. The Red Phantom)

Thanks to a childhood spent with a family of cops, Shawn Spencer possesses an incredible photographic memory and notices seemingly insignificant details. These traits allow him to spend his jobless days providing the police with mystery solving tips - but his knowledge soon makes him a suspect. In order to clear his name, the unlikely sleuth declares he has clairvoyant abilities and launches his own investigative agency, Psych.

Episode 8: Shawn vs. The Red Phantom

Flashback Scene: Shawn's dad criticizes him for reading comic books which he says make policemen look bad.

The Case: A teenager goes missing, and to Gus’ delight, he and Shawn must spend the entire weekend at the boy’s last known location — the Santa Barbara Comic-Con — investigating his disappearance.

When visiting the lost boy's mom, Shawn notices a shoe imprint on a mattress that leads him to a bunch of money hidden in an overhead light. Gus deduces that with all the comics books and sci-fi stuff in his room he must be a the Comic-Con.

There they find that his two friends have been staying in a hotel room that he paid for. In there Shawn sees clues that the missing kid is actually a secret blogger (lol) that reviews movies.

As things progress, different people who are involved with the new Red Phantom movie start to disappear. Shawn realizes that the only person with a grudge against all of them is the writer of the Green Spirit comic whose movie flopped. He was even following the story line in his own comic.

Pineapple Sighting:

Gus nickname: Shawn introduces him as his super hero sidekick, Magic Head

Side note: As Lassie and the police chief go to a seminar, her water breaks and is taken to a hospital where she delivers a baby girl.
