The Wide World of Sports* (10/11/16)

*Well, only the ones I care about.

MLB

NL: The Giants beat the Mets 3-0 in the one game wildcard round to advance and face the Cubs. Chicago currently leads that series two games to one.

The Dodgers and Nationals have split the first two games of their series.

AL: The Blue Jays beat Baltimore in their wildcard game 5-2 to face division winner Texas. Texas stays hot and swept the series three games to one.

In the other matchup, Big Papi says goodbye in sad fashion as the Red Sox are swept by Cleveland (whut?) in their series as well, three games to none.

NFL

The Falcons are off to another hot start. Stop me if you have heard this before. This week they handed Denver its first loss (sorry Paxton Lynch) to improve their NFC South leading record to 4-1. And how about that Julio Jones?!?

Oh, and Tom Brady came back this week. Whatev.

NCAA Football

It's starting to get down to the nitty gritty part of the season now so I am just going to start focusing on the top ten teams. Well, this is what the Top 10 looked like before Saturday:

1 Alabama (53) 5-0 @ #16 Arkansas W 49-30 The offense is starting to click. I'm sure America is glad to hear that.

2 Ohio State (6) 4-0 vs Indiana W 38-17 More cupcakes than a bakery.

3 Clemson (1) 5-0 @ Boston College W 56-10 Starting to get better each week.

4 Michigan (1) 5-0 @ Rutgers W 78-0 Cupcakes 'R Us.

5 Washington 5-0 @ Oregon W 70-21 How good is this team? Time will tell.

6 Houston 5-0 @ Navy L 46-40 Uh oh. No shot at the playoffs now. Not sure they ever had a legit shot anyway.

7 Louisville 4-1 Idle Dangerous team. Jackson will prob win Heisman, but it won't matter if they can win their conference.

8 Texas A&M 5-0 vs #9 Tennessee W 45-38 Aggies tried to give this one away. UT's magical comebacks finally fell short even after pushing the game to OT.

9 Tennessee 5-0 @ #8 Texas A&M L 45-38 See above. Also, Bama up next.

10 Miami 4-0 vs #23 Florida State L 20-19  Quick, name the best team in Florida. Errr, ummm, well....yeah.

The new Top 10 and games of note this week with my predictions:

1 Alabama (56) 6-0 @ Tennessee. Toughest game here maybe, but UT has got to be emotionally spent and running on fumes. Bama 41, UT 27

2 Ohio State (2) 5-0 @ #8 Wisconsin. Let's face it, the only reason the Badgers are ranked this high is because they beat two overhyped, over-ranked teams in LSU and Sparty. How do those wins look now? And only put up seven against Michigan in a loss? They won't outscore the Buckeyes. OSU 35, Wisky 14.

3 Clemson (2) 6-0
4 Michigan (1) 6-0
5 Washington 6-0
6 Texas A&M 6-0
7 Louisville 4-1
8 Wisconsin 4-1
9 Tennessee 5-1
10 Nebraska 5-0
