Friday and the Random 10 (Shine a Little Love Edition)

You know, I could write something clever here, but I am not sure anybody even reads this anymore. I am just going to jump right into the music. Before we get started though, how about that Random Ten last week? You can take a quick review by following this link, or trying to figure out the artists from the cool picture below:

As always the rules and whatnot are up there ↑ at the top next to the Home tab.

Billy Joel got sent to Exile Island because he broke the rules by showing up more than once in last week's countdown. This means he cannot appear in the countdown below.

********************************************************************************

1) Journey/Escape (Escape) -
You may have heard of this album somewhat. I mean it sold like a bazillion copies or something. This title song, though it wasn't one of the many hits is actually one of my favorite songs on this album.

2) Electric Light Orchestra/Shine a Little Love (Discovery) - Oh man, another favorite song of mine! Back when ELO was huge. The strings are awesome as always. Disco? Very!

3) Yes/Sound Chaser (Yes Remixes)-  Virgil Howe a.k.a. "The Verge" (and son of Steve Howe) re-imagined Yes's music into a techno context, dramatically altering the band's sound. Why, I dunno, but it was a funky little CD.

4) Prince/1999 (Little Red Corvette UK 3" CD) - And here we go with Prince again. Fantastic song and a classic, but... well no but's it's just a cool song so I'm gonna roll with it.

5) Billy Squier/Emotions in Motion (16 Strokes - The Best Of) - For those who know me when I get in a really good mood I start singing on my train to certain conductors as we pull into a station. It's usually Billy Squier tunes.

6) Amaranthe/An Ordinary Abnormality (Massive Addictive) - One of my favorite newer bands. I still do not get the whole death metal singer thing though. Great band.

7) Jackson Browne/Lives in the Balance (The Very Best of Jackson Browne) - Never heard this one and expected typical JB. Instead I get some anti-war political song. No thanks. And is that someone playing a pan flute? Zamfir?

8) Big Bad Voodoo Daddy/Big and Bad (The Best of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy) - More big band swing from them. Doesn't totally suck. Guess I just have to be in the right mood for them.

9) Wendy Carlos/Tronaction (soundtrack from the movie Tron) - I believe I have spoken before on this topic and how she used to be a man. Yeah, she's a man baby! Still a cool movie though and great soundtrack.

10) Def Leppard/Love Bites (Hysteria) - Another album you may have heard of. It sold over 20 million copies so at least 20 million of you are familiar with it. If I only had that many readers...sigh...

********************************************************************************

The STCS for this week is Wendy Carlos/Ending Titles (soundtrack to the movie Tron). Again?!? Well I guess he/she gets sent to Exile Island next week but will be all alone because Billy Joel escapes after only one week. The Tarkus gets to continue his mighty slumber. Who knows when he will get to rise from the bowels of the Earth to vanquish some unsuspecting artist? Other than that there were some great songs this week. Gonna be hard to just pick one to play us out.

********************************************************************************

As always stay warm/cool and comfy wherever you are. Go Braves and Roll Tide!

Journey played us out last week, so this week belongs to ELO and OMG it has a real video!

Can you understand (Yes I understand)
Can you feel it's right  (I know it is)
Will you be the same (I'll do it all again).
