Survivor: Worlds Apart Week 9 Recap

This season of Survivor is called Worlds Apart and brings us three tribes based on occupations: white collar "executives", blue collar working folks, and no collar carefree individuals.

Last week Joe finally ran out of chances and got sent home for being the biggest threat. As soon as they got back to camp though Rodney started scheming with Will, Carolyn and Tyler to blindside Mike. Problem is that Mike was close by and heard the whole thing. And that set everything in motion...

Trader Jeff's

For the first time this season Jeff held an auction (each contestant had $500) with items ranging from food to mystery items. Now everyone knows how the game works and the "advantage" is the last thing offered so the desperate people (i.e. Mike at this point) know to sit back and wait.

The first item was a mystery item and Will bid $100 to get it. Not the "grilled ass" he expected, but he got a note saying he was done and out of the auction and must leave immediately. Harsh. And epic! Everyone else bid on food except for Mike, Dan, and Carolyn.

The next to last item was letters from home and Shirin pointed out that usually whoever wins this bid sets the price for the remaining letters. So Sierra wins with $20 letting everyone else buy theirs for the cheapest possible amount. Well, almost. Everyone gets in line and with Mike going last bows out and changes his mind. Seeing that that would give Mike the most money to bid on the last item, Carolyn says eff that and puts her letters back. Everyone was stunned at his move and then, feeling the pressure, decides to go along with everyone else and spend the $20.

That left Mike, Carolyn and Dan with $480 to vote on the last offering. They all went max bid which forced a tie and the drawing of rocks. Dan pulled the white rock and won the advantage.

Back at camp is when things went batshit crazy. Will had to head back there alone, but found a clue waiting for him. It led him to a spot where he dug up a secret stash of food. He went all no collar and took it back to camp for everyone to share. No problem there.

As soon as everyone else got back to camp, and before they could even read their letters, Mike launched into an attack on Rodney saying he had already flipped and called out his alliance. Then they questioned whether Will had brought all the food back or just the stuff he didn't like. Will then went off on Shirin (and basically her whole family and immortal soul) in a most vicious way.

When Dan finally got around to opening his package, it told him that he gets an extra vote at tribal to use whenever he wanted. #GoldenTicket

Individual Immunity Challenge

Before the challenge even started, Will made Jeff an offer: he would bow out if he could receive his letters from home. He left it up to the rest of them to vote, but it had to be unanimous. Shirin said nope. That's the nature of the game. Get over it. Bazinga!

As far as the challenge went, each player had to pick up balls with a set of tongs, walk over two teeter totters and place the ball on a stand. First one to get all six on the stand wins. Mike got into a rhythm early and basically never looked back, winning a much needed immunity (though he does have an idol).

Tribal Council

Jenn, Mike and Shirin had gotten tight after the blowups at camp. Since Mike had immunity, the rest decided to split their votes between Jenn and Shirin with the majority going to the biggest threat, Jenn.

Mike campaigned hard to get Dan to flip and listened to what he had to say. Then he was approached by his alliance and blew up at them saying his vote was his and no one else's and he would use it as he best saw fit.

Carolyn received one vote, but the rest went according to plan as Shirin got three and Jenn got the remaining five to be sent home. Dan didn't flip.

So that leaves us with (total tribal votes received in parentheses):

Blue: Dan (5), Mike*, Rodney (2), Sierra (2)
White: Tyler, Shirin (3), Carolyn*(3)
Red: Will (4)

*Has an Immunity Idol

Voted out and on the jury (in order): Hali, Joe, Jenn

Voted out pre-jury (in order): So, Vince, Nina, Lindsey, Max, Joaquin, Kelly
