Music Monday (Heaven & Earth, Side 2)

And so it has finally come to this. As it stands now, this is the last side of the last studio album Yes has released. What does the future hold? Hopefully more Yes, in whatever form they should deem to reappear. This, however, is not the end to Music Monday...

So in my last post, I suppose I was kinda critical of the "sameness" of the songs. Well, at least the flip side does offer some variety. In the end though, this is my favorite band and it is what it is now. This who they are, and I for one am glad they are still around.

Side Two

5) In a World of Our Own - This is a pretty simple song by Davison and Squire. Sounds like someone had some woman problems though...

6) Light of the Ages - One of the better songs on the album. It has some potential, but I feel that it just kind of drags on in spots. And sometimes Howe's whiny ass guitar gets on my nerves.

7) It Was All We Knew - Speaking of Howe, this is one of his contributions to the album. And you know what? I like it. This is the only weird video I could find of the complete song. "Sweet were the fruits, long were the summer days" makes me think of a simpler time back in my younger days.

8) Subway Walls - And here it is. Every positive review I have read of this album always mentions this song, and for good reason. Easily the most progressive track on the whole thing. When I first heard it I was like thank God they at least tried to be awesome. By the way, my appreciation of Downes on keyboard continues to grow.

Heaven & Earth peaked at number 20 on the UK album chart, the band's highest position since Talk (1994), which peaked at the same spot. It entered the US Billboard 200 chart at number 26, falling to 108 in its second week. Hopefully this isn't the last we hear from them.
