Music Monday: Styx Live Albums (2000-2002)

After Brave New World, the band was ready to move forward touring, but Dennis DeYoung wasn't. They went on without him and replaced him with Canadian Lawrence Gowan. Also, with Chuck Panozzo focusing on his health concerns, Glen Burtnik returned to Styx (yay!), this time as bass player though, with Chuck participating on a part-time basis, sitting in as his health permitted. Styx's new lineup released several live albums and toured extensively during this period.

Styx World: Live 2001

StyxWorld Live 2001 is drawn from performances at the Kosei Nenken Hall, Tokyo, Japan (2/10-11/00), Stadthalle, Offenbach, Germany (10/27/00), and the Shaw Center, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (02/11/01).

Notable additions to the setlist was "High Enough" from Tommy's Damn Yankees days, "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough" which I had no idea was co-written by Glen Burtnik, and "A Criminal Mind" which is one of Gowan's signature solo recordings.

Arch Allies: Live at Riverport

Arch Allies is a live album recorded by REO Speedwagon and Styx as they toured together. This particular concert was at Riverport Amphitheatre (now Verizon Wireless Amphitheater) in Maryland Heights, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis. It was released on September 26, 2000 by Sanctuary Records, and a single DVD was also released on November 7, 2000.

Each band also released single live albums containing only their own tracks from this album. The Styx songs were released alone in 2002 as At the River's Edge: Live in St. Louis.

Both bands performed together onstage for REO's "Roll with the Changes", and Styx's "Blue Collar Man". These jams are on the original Arch Allies two CD set, but were replaced with live versions of "Lorelei" and "Everything is Cool" on At the River's Edge.
