Psych: Season 1 Episode 5 Recap (9 Lives)

Thanks to a childhood spent with a family of cops, Shawn Spencer possesses an incredible photographic memory and notices seemingly insignificant details. These traits allow him to spend his jobless days providing the police with mystery solving tips - but his knowledge soon makes him a suspect. In order to clear his name, the unlikely sleuth declares he has clairvoyant abilities and launches his own investigative agency, Psych.

Episode 5: 9 Lives

Flashback Scene: Shawn's dad teaches him how to look at things a different way when he can't find the toy in a cereal box. 

The Case: The scene of a potential suicide leaves Shawn to believe it was actually a murder.

At the scene, Shawn takes the victim's cat, who he says is giving him messages. After another suicide is found, he believes there may be a serial killer.

They return to the apartment and swipe the phone bill. It turns out all the victims called a stress line many times before their suicides.

Pineapple Sighting: 

Shawn brings it as a present to the Stress Line

They head down to investigate the stress line, posing as a new company in the building. Shawn brings them a pineapple(!), and finally introduces Gus using another name.

Gus nickname #1: Gus "Silly Pants" Jackson

Lassie and Jules arrive on the scene and arrest one of the operators. Shawn figures out that it was a guy working on the phone lines who was targeting all the people. He gets Gus to climb the telephone pole and drop down equipment tat recorded all calls. When checking the last number dialed, it was actually Officer McNab, who had earlier tried to ask Lassie for honeymoon advice.

They called the chief and rushed over there themselves in time to catch the killer (the first suicide victim's brother) from harming McNab. It was a standoff until it was broken up by the cat leaping on the killer. He was arrested, and Shawn gave the cat to Buzz as a wedding present.
