Survivor: Worlds Apart Week 5 Recap

This season of Survivor is called Worlds Apart and brings us three tribes based on occupations: white collar "executives", blue collar working folks, and no collar carefree individuals.

********************************************************************************

Last week the white team got cut, the buffs were dropped and new teams were formed.

Red Team (Nagarote)

The main thing going on at this camp was Shirin's shock over Max being voted out. She realized that Carolyn was not keeping to her old white team alliance and figured she was on shaky ground (she is). Hali basically told her she was annoying the frack out of everyone and the only reason they didn't vote her out was that Max was even more annoying to them. After that she seemed to calm down and get with the program a bit.

This team even won the reward challenge and all bonded (even Shirin) over beef stew and macaroni & cheese. Later that night they got to go to a turtle sanctuary to watch sea turtles lay their eggs before returning to the ocean.

Blue Team (Escameca)

Oh what tangled webs we weave... Rodney thinks he is in major control here seeing that he has found a hetero life mate in Joaquin (#bromance). From there the deceptions begin. Sierra turns out to be the swing vote again and gets wooed by Joaquin, who says he also has Tyler's vote. He hits a roadblock though when it comes to Rodney. Sierra wants no part of anything that involves him.

Away from all that, Rodney is now hitting up Mike to throw the Immunity Challenge so that they can blindside Joe. He apparently has it all worked out. However Mike is also conspiring with Dan and Joe to try and reconcile with Sierra to get a numbers advantage, but she still has a grudge against her old blue tribe mates. Mike also makes a small comment about hopefully reuniting with his original alliance (Kelly) after the merge.

Immunity Challenge

This challenge wasn't big on physical requirements so you figured maybe Nagarote had a chance. It was basically a memory game where objects were shown until someone pulled a lever to cover them up. They then had to run to the opposite side and recreate what they saw with the waiting items. First team to three wins. The results were:

Carolyn beat Rodney (Red 1, Blue 0)
Hali beat Sierra (Red 2, Blue 0)
Joe beat Will (Red 2, Blue 1)
Dan beat Shirin (Red 2, Blue 2)

Now this is where it gets interesting. It was Mike against Kelly. Remember the comment about him wanting to reunite with her after the merge? Well after three unsuccessful attempts at winning, he whispers to her that he is trying to throw the challenge. He basically tells her the order things will be in but he will switch two on purpose to lose. And that's how it happened. Red wins and blue goes to Tribal.

Survivor Question #1: Has throwing an Immunity Challenge ever worked?

Tribal Council

At this point Rodney is glowing. Mike threw the challenge like they discussed and the plan was to vote out Joe. Meanwhile everybody else was already sick of the new apparent "power couple" and felt they should be dealt with immediately. It was decided that removing Joaquin would eliminate Rodney's perceived power. The main thing though was trying to decide what Sierra was going to do.

It went exactly right down the middle as expected. Joe and Joaquin had three votes apiece. Swing vote Sierra bit the bullet and went with Joaquin to send him home. The look on Rodney's face was priceless (#blindside).

So that leaves us with (total tribal votes received in parentheses):

Blue Team (Escameca): Dan, Mike, Rodney, Sierra, Tyler, and Joe (3)

Red Team (Nagarote): Hali, Will (4), Jenn*(2), Carolyn*(2), Shirin, and Kelly

*Has an Immunity Idol

Voted out (in order): So, Vince, Nina, Lindsey, Max, Joaquin
