The Continuing Story of Disney and Career Decisions (Updated)

You may have pieced together from my post about my adventure taking a drug test, that I was offered a job. That place was actually Sea World and I have orientation with them on May 10th. So of course, in perfect timing, I get a call from Disney (actually the union) saying that my next grievance hearing was scheduled for Thursday the 9th. I would hate to turn down Sea World, but if I get a good enough offer from the Mouse then I will have to take it. I am hoping I can do both. Here is a rundown of previous events and this is what I have scheduled this week:

  • May 6th - I was contacted by the union reps again and was told that they were sending my previous offer back to Disney, hoping they will settle before the meeting. If they do not settle, I am going to take that offer off the table for Thursday and request full back pay, my job back, and all this stuff wiped completely from my record.

  • May 7th - No reply from anyone.

  • May 8th - Not a word. I guess the meeting is a go.

  • May 9th - Grievance Meeting #2. Went pretty well even though I felt it was quick. Hopefully the pictures discredited their "witnesses". I felt good that they wanted an understanding of where I was in relation to the conductors who said I was on the train. I also liked that they asked about me being with the company since 1989 with no other safety issues ever being on my record card (even though a certain manager tried to include the photo incident as a safety reprimand...yeah, whatever).

  • May 10th - Sea World Orientation. Luckily, got rescheduled for the 17th. Now I have time to debate other options or take the new gig if I do not like the Disney offer (or they say no).

    ***UPDATE***
Wow, a little more over an hour after I posted this, I got a call from the Union stating that I got my job back and would be heading back to trains.

I've been waiting to break this one out. Time for the Happy Dance!
