A Blocker in Bleeker

This is an update piece to this post about the old Chattahoochee Valley Railway that ran from West Point, GA to Bleeker, AL

While driving through that part of Alabama between Opelika and my home town of Phenix City last year on the way home from vacation, my partner Steam Train Sarah pointed out that we had passed a caboose. Later on I pieced together that this had to be from the Chattahoochee Valley Railway because that area is was where the railroad terminated and joined up with the Central of Georgia Railway shipping things into Columbus.

Now in April of 2019 we were house hunting in that area and I was determined to locate that caboose again. Well, I did:

I looked all over that thing to find any marks that might identify it, but found nothing (it had been painted over several times). However, doing some research I found a book about the railroad and it listed this:

Looks like the same caboose to me, and it does give a location of Salem (3 miles from Bleeker). So yeah, another piece of local history solved!
