Music Monday (Yes/Yes, Side One)

Most everyone I know can tell from my t-shirt collection that I am a big fan of Yes (that and my apartment is decorated with Roger Dean posters). I wanted to share their music with everyone (or anyone that cares) and I guess there's no places to start like the beginning. Unfortunately that starts in the late 1960's, which would turn most of the kids I know today completely off to this music. Well if you want hip-hop untalented dance crap you might as well just stop reading here and go elsewhere. You can read about the early history of the band here.

I'm just going to start with the side one of the first album, simply titled Yes. This is the album cover, using the original logo for the band.

1) Beyond and Before. This is a great song with great vocals...and damn at that Chris Squire bass. Definite prog here.

2) I See You. In the early days, Yes had a habit of taking other people's music and songs and making it all their own. Kind of like today's sampling and whatnot (ok yeah it's theft). This song is originally sung by the Byrds. Great instrumentals starting around the 2:50 mark.

3) Yesterday and Today. This is a sweet little song. One of my early favorites. Definite hidden gem.

4) Looking Around. This is another cool song. Love the keyboards.

So yeah that's it for starters. Very 60's/hippie/retro sounding I know. I also wanted to give a shout out to the obvious Yes fans that created these videos. I was surprised to find videos of this quality. I half expected to just see the album cover with the song playing. Just goes to show that their music influences a lot of people!
