Psych Season 1 Episode 12 Recap (Cloudy...Chance of Murder)

Thanks to a childhood spent with a family of cops, Shawn Spencer possesses an incredible photographic memory and notices seemingly insignificant details. These traits allow him to spend his jobless days providing the police with mystery solving tips - but his knowledge soon makes him a suspect. In order to clear his name, the unlikely sleuth declares he has clairvoyant abilities and launches his own investigative agency, Psych.

Episode 12: Cloudy...Chance of Murder

Flashback Scene: Shawn learns from his dad while sitting in court how to read a jury.

The Case:  When a woman sleeps with a beloved local weatherman but wakes up to find him dead, she is charged with his murder.  Shawn finds a way into the case by becoming a consultant to the defense.

While going to pay the fine for his impounded motorcycle, Shawn makes eye contact with a woman walking through the hallway. Back at the office he sees her on on TV as the defendant in a murder trial. Believing she is innocent, and seeing his awful lawyer, Shawn decides to help out as a consultant.

Pineapple Sighting: Eating a bowl of pineapple while watching the news:

Shawn and Gus visit the news station where one of the staff shows him how the green screens work. There they also meet an assistant who clearly hated the victim.

While in court, Shane does his best to help out the defense lawyer, but when an actual videotape of the murder is entered into evidence they are given an ultimatum to plea bargain, which the defendant refuses.

Upon watching the video tape again and again, Shawn notices a distortion in the green screen that he had previously learned about and noticed it was the shadow of the victim's secretary, who confessed her love for him and that she did it because he never wanted her.

Side story: Shawn's dad actually had his motorcycle impounded. In the final scene, Shawn was going to bid at an auction to get his bike back, but his dad and the lawyer were there to do the same for him. It was then deemed unnecessary as it was returned to him because it was handled "internally'. No one understood until Lassie walked out and was caught surprised by them. I was like "awww Lassie did a nice thing!".
