Friday and the Random 10 (Year of Hell Edition)

So if there was any good news at all coming out of 2016 it was that three of my favorite bands made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Not that it matters much anyway, the place is a sham, but to be inducted this year are YES(!), Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), and Journey.

This week's countdown, and the first for 2017, will be 16 random songs from these bands and no one else. It's the only way to send out the Year of Hell*.

Let music take the pain of 2016 away!

Exile Island will start off brand new. No need to rehash the bad parts of last year. I am not even sure it will be around for 2017 at all at this point anyway. And as usual, the rules and whatnot are up there ↑ at the top near the home tab.

********************************************************************************

1) Journey/Of a Lifetime (Journey) - I know a lot of people rolled their eyes at Journey being included. If you knew the back catalog of everything before Escape you would find some awesome stuff.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2) Journey/Wheel in the Sky (Infinity) - This was the first album that actually had Steve Perry on it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3) ELO/From the End of the World (Time) - This is one of those albums that are just a personal favorite and reminds me of a certain time and place where I used to live.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4) Yes/Heart of the Sunrise (Fragile) - Classic album, legendary song.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5) Journey/I Would Find You (Next) - This is the song that starts off the same as Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer".

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6) ELO/The Way Life's Meant to Be (Time) - Not a hit single, but another great song from this album.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7) Yes/Does It Really Happen? (Drama) - The first Yes album without Jon Anderson on vocals.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8) ELO/When Time Stood Still (Time) - I do have other albums from them. Honest. The was actually a B-side not included on the album, but it was always one of my favorites...and sooo "eerie".
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9) Yes/Starship Trooper (The Yes Album) - The first song of theirs with "movements": I) Life Seeker, II) Disillusion, III) Wurm.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10) Yes/Holy Lamb - Song for the Harmonic Convergence (Big Generator) - A lot of words for a little song. This was the 80's Yes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

STCS) Journey/Lovin' You is Easy (Evolution) - Another kick ass older song from a great album.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

12) Yes/It's Over (90125) - The HUGE album that brought Yes to the 80's. This is a demo song by Trevor Rabin.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

13) Yes/The Fish -Shindleria Praematurus (Fragile) - The worst part about Yes getting in the Hall of Fame? Chris Squire passing away last year. This is one of his bass masterpieces.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

14) Yes/To Be Over (Relayer) - Fantastic album and song, even if there was no Rick Wakeman this time. He was replaced with Patrick Moraz.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

15) Yes/Parallels (Going For the One) - Rick Wakeman came back for this one and all was good in the land of Yes again.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

16) Yes/Make It Easy (90125) - Another demo by Trevor Rabin, but this one should have made the album.

Stay cool/dry/comfy wherever you are, avoid pumpkin spice flavored anything, be safe, and Roll Tide!

Have a bonus song to play us out and start the year right!

* Oh you know you thought it too when I wrote "Year of Hell"!
