Last week's countdown was okay. No one got banned so everything is fair game this time around. As usual the rules and whatnot are up there ↑ at the top.
Let's get 10 songs in while we are still 102...
1) Yes/Ritual (Nous Sommes Du Soleil) - Wow. Grandslam right out of the gate. I have previously covered this song and album here. It is a complete masterpiece and the pinnacle of Yes music. Yes, that's how much I think of it. Absolute album cover winner:
2) Billy Joel/You're Only Human (Second Wind) - Good song. also the second in a row with part of the title in parentheses. Maybe it's a theme. Let's check the next song.
3) Apollo 440/Stadium Parking Lot - Nope. This song is a rocker even though most of their stuff is predominantly techno. This is a great band.
4) Fleetwood Mac/Don't Stop - Classic. Nuff said.
5) Jimmy Buffett/Boat Drinks - I think Jimmy boy needs an intervention.
6) Joseph Megamix/Soundtrack (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat) - I went through this faze where I watched and/or listened to a lot of musicals (trying to add some culture you know). This was a video I bought for the kids at one point, complete with Donny Osmond, that I thought was awesome.
7) Tommy Shaw/No Such Thing - From one of his "I'm so tired of DDY and his stupid love songs" solo albums. And you're right Tommy, there's no such thing as a perfect love.
8) Royal Philharmonic Orchestra/Hooked on Classics (Parts 1 & 2) - There was a time in the 80's that albums like this were popular. Someone would take a bunch of classic songs or music and make a type of medley with it adding in a dance beat. This is what started the craze:
9) Shostakovich/Piano Concerto #2 (Fantasia 2000 soundtrack) - As seen above, I have a love for classical music. I think both Fantasia movies are the best thing Disney has ever done. This is the toy soldier part. In other words, it's the music Disney cast members hear on the bus every fricking day!
10) Yes/Sad Night at the Airfield - I hate that this song gets them banned. It from their most latest album Fly From Here and it's probably my favorite track, even though JA doesn't sing on the album. Bonus album cover:
So there we go. we made it through the whole thing without a weather or computer 101. Yes gets banned for next week though. The STCS for this week is Jon Anderson/A Play Within a Play. This must have been from one of his solo albums where he was also tired of DDY's love songs. Oh wait, wrong band. Listening to it though it does seem like the time period where he worked with Vangelis a lot. You know, the Chariots of Fire guy. Anywayzzz...
Stay cool and dry central Florida, and as always Roll Tide!
Play us out Tommy! (Holy crap there's a real video for this!)
