Survivor Season 36: Ghost Island Week 5 Recap

This is season 36 of Survivor. This time, twenty players (15 remaining) are competing in Fiji, and, for the first time ever, the show will revolve around a new game-changing element: the mistakes of castaways past, the talismans of which are scattered on a land dubbed Ghost Island.

********************************************************************************

Now, first of all, let me say that I am in no way an expert in any kind of way about this show. Actually I am only a few seasons in, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. This blog post is my way of helping me keep all things sorted out. So take it easy on me if I make mistakes.

DROP YOUR BUFFS (AGAIN...)

Malolo

The new Malolo is now three original Naviti (Angela, Desiree, Kellyn) and two reunited Malolo in Michael and James.

********************************************************************************

Naviti

The new Naviti also has three original members (Domenick, Chelsea, Bradley), and are this time joined by two Malolo in Libby and Donathan.

********************************************************************************

Yanuya

If you said "Wait Von, that's not everyone" you would be right. Jeff added a third tribe in Yanuya, which, like the other two tribes, have three Naviti (Sebastian, Wendell, and Chris) and two Malolo in Laurel and Jenna.

To me, this just watered things down too much. There was no reward challenge, and no one got sent to Ghost Island either. As a matter of fact this whole episode was about the swap and not much happened after that.

Immunity Challenge

This challenge involved a "caller' and two pairs of blindfolded teammates. The caller would direct his team vocally to three different spots to find a bag of puzzle pieces. The only change up in this challenge that I had actually seen before was at the end the puzzle pieces were put together while still blindfolded and being directed by the caller.

Malolo was actually first to get all the puzzle pieces (directed by Desiree), followed by Yanuya, then Naviti. That's as good as it got for Malolo.

Yanuya passed them and finished the puzzle first. Naviti was the next to finish it.

Malolo goes to tribal ...again.

********************************************************************************
Tribal Council

With only five people in the tribe, there were still decisions to be made. The Naviti still outnumbered the Malolo. Would they go after Michael or James who were probably their best challenge players, or maybe go after one of their own in Desiree who screwed up the puzzle as the caller? Angela doesn't trust her Naviti tribemates anymore after getting three votes in Week 2, and was only still in the game because of Malolo votes.

Desiree got one vote, the rest went to James who was sent home.

So that leaves us with (total times at tribal and votes received in parentheses):

Malolo: Angela (2-3), Michael (5-0), Kellyn (3-0), Desiree (3-2)

Naviti: **Domenick* (1-0), Chelsea (2-0), Libby (3-1), Bradley (2-4), and Donathan (2-1).

Yanuya: Sebastian (2-0), Laurel (3-0), Wendell (1-0), Jenna (4-0) and Chris (0-0)

Voted out (in order): Gonzalez, Jacob, Morgan, Brendan, Stephanie, James

*Has a Hidden Immunity Idol. Domenick found his idol in Week 1. Michael found one in Week 2 and played it in Week 3.

**Has a Secret Advantage. Jacob willed it from Ghost Island to Morgan in Week 1. Morgan was voted out in Week 2, and willed it to Domenick.
