Friday and the Random 10 (100 Years of Roy Edition)

Okay, yeah I missed another Friday last week (and the one before that too), but I have a really good excuse this time. Most of you may know that I work as an engineer on the Walt Disney World Railroad. One of our steam trains, the Roy O. Disney (Walt's brother), reached its 100th birthday! We had a centennial celebration with special pics in the morning (see below), a BBQ cookout, and then a formal get together later that night at the Contemporary Resort. It was a full day and an event I am proud to say I was a part of. That's me standing on the top of the tender in the middle.

But we are here for music, so let's get back to that:

Exile Island Rick Wakeman Isle gets to keeps its name thanks to the Tarkus last week, but other than that no one new got added. And as usual, the rules and whatnot are up there ↑ at the top near the home tab. Wow, some weeks are just copy/paste.

Play On!

1) The Buggles/Lenny (Adventures in Modern Recording) - Nice. I wish more people were familiar with their two albums. Good stuff.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2) Dream Theater/Beyond This Life (Metropolis Pt.2, Scenes From a Memory) - Still trying to get into this. Still not working out too well.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3) Daft Punk/The Prime Time of Your Life (Human After All) - I think i may be losing my coolness. I am starting to not like the older stuff.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4) If These Trees Could Talk/Above the Earth (Above the Earth, Below the Sky) - IALA moment. Watch the video. Enjoy. Yeah.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5) Styx/Come Sail Away (The Grand Illusion) - No words. Best album cover ever.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6) Chicago/25 or 5 to 4 (Chicago XVIII) - Not the original kickass version, but the remake from the 80's. I was stunned at the time that none of my friends had not known the older classic version.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7) Red Hot Chili Peppers/Give It Away (Blood Sugar Sex Magik) - Oh yeah! I can't find the cool official video. Boo.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8) Patrick Moraz/Out in the Sun (Out in the Sun) - And this surprisingly has a video. This was Yes' keyboard player (for Relayer) when RW left the band the first time.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9) The Buggles/We Can Fly From Here (Adventures in Modern Recording) - This was a demo (and bonus track) that they took to Yes and somehow ended up in the band. Long story. Much Drama. 30+ years later it became this:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10) Rush/Anthem (Fly By Night) - Epic. And this takes me back to high school (again, yeah I know) cruising around dark country roads at night and digging deep into Rush albums.

The STCS for this week goes to Journey/I'm Gonna Leave You (Look Into the Future). Great early stuff from them before Steve Perry that I have been digging into a lot recently. And yes, I do hear Kansas' "Carry On My Wayward Son" in there. Look it up. As far as Exile Island goes, I guess if you don't pay attention to it then it goes away. The Buggles got banned, but RW got set free. That's a good week.

Stay warm/dry/comfy wherever you are, and Roll Tide!

Last week we sadly lost Keith Emerson who was a keyboard hero of mine and someone who greatly influences a lot of the material I blog on here. In his honor, I am going to let the Tarkus play us out this week.
