Friday and the RAD 30 (CentralPC86 Reunion Edition)

Scott: Greetings fans of Von's this is Scott (you may know me from this awesome post), and I am here to do the Rad 30. I know you're saying "Scott we do Random 10's in these parts" well there is a special reason we are doing the Dirty Thirty this time. Von and I recently went to our 30th High School Reunion (#CentralPC86) (#PleaseDontDoTheMath), so for this episode we are totally doing all 80's music from my Walkman/Ipod (like as we are literally driving up the interstate right now).

Von: I had always hoped to have collaborators on my blog posts, and Scott was always on the top of that list. He is truly the master of pop culture, along with having a degree in useless and trivial information.

Can you pick us out from this pic? We're the good looking ones:

Everyone gets a new start around here. Exile Island starts off empty, and will hopefully stay that way for awhile. And as usual, the rules and whatnot are up there ↑ at the top near the home tab.

********************************************************************************

Get ready for a Tubular Time, and let's get ready to go BACK IN TIME!

1.) Holiday Road/Lindsey Buckingham - S: First song and all ready I am cheating. I purposely picked this song because this list was compiled while we road tripped from Florida to Alabama for the reunion so I felt this was the best way to start us off.

V: I can dig it.

2.) Paul Revere/Beastie Boys - This was the first rap cassette and rap concert I ever went to.

V: I wouldn't be bragging about that. And I must admit I knew it was the BB, but had no idea the name of the song.

3.) Good Bye To You/Scandal - S: What I remember most about Scandal is that for a while they were Scandal featuring Patty Smythe. Now every cassette is "featuring" somebody on it.

V: Man, MTV played this song...A LOT.

4.) I Missed Again/Phil Collins - S: Phil Collins was the lead singer for Genesis after Peter Gabriel left, and oh yeah he was the drummer.

V: I actually had to ask if this was PC or Genesis because they sounded so similar there for awhile.

5.) Bad/Michael Jackson - S: How could you have an 80's countdown without The King of Pop?

V: Chammon

6.) Bust A Move/Young MC - S: You want it? Baby I got it

V: In the 80's it was more like hey I'm white and I know a rap song!

7.) (She's) Sexy & 17/Stray Cats - S: Before he went on to the Brian Setzer Orchestra. I mean who doesn't want their own orchestra?

V: I know I do.

8.) Sad Songs/Elton John - S: It would be a sad song if you ended up on Exile Island later (hint hint)

V: Ooh, that's called foreshadowing...

9.) Walk This Way/Run DMC featuring Aerosmith - S: This was the song that started rap music in the mainstream.

V: Steve Tyler in the video was basically who are these people and why the eff are the singing my song?

10.) Don't Forget Me When I Am Gone /Glass Tiger - S: When discussing music from different eras I believe the top stars will always be a part of a certain era, but it is always the quality of the bands that have one or two hits, that define that era as good or bad.

V: So more harmonica? Or mandolin?

11.) New Sensation/INXS - S: Years later after Michael Hutchence died the band did a reality show to find it's new lead singer.

V: I didn't win.

12.) I'm Still Standing/Elton John - S: This video feature Bruno Tonioli from Dancing With The Stars in quite a few embarrassing outfits. Oh and by the way welcome to Exile Island.

V: I had to go back and look at that video. I'm sorry I did, but now you must suffer with me:

13.) Heart and Soul/Huey Lewis and The News - S: When compiling my list of 80's music I had forgotten exactly how many hits Huey Lewis and The News had. Hope they don't show up again.

V: <ominous music>

14.) Tuff Enuff/Fabulous Thunderbirds - S: Not to be confused with this Fabulous Thunderbirds video.

V: I must admit I had the most fun with this song

15.) C'est la Vie/Robbie Neville - S: This one half stumped Von. He remembered the Robbie part but forgot the Neville part.

V: Wrap it up, I'll take it! Sorry, still stuck on the Thunderbirds...

16.) She Drives Me Crazy/Fine Young Cannibals - S: Better than those Ugly Old Vegetarians

V: Or as I call them, vegans.

17.) Our House/Madness - S: Last time I heard from Madness they were in the closing ceremonies of the London Olympics. WTF?

V: I remember them from an episode of The Young Ones.

18.) Don't Worry, Be Happy/Bobby McFerrin - S: "Really? Bobby McFerrin?"...Von

V: Nuff said.

19.) What's Love Got To Do With It/Tina Turner - S: After she left Ike and acquired a West Indian accent.

V: Damn, Ike must have beat her so bad she thought she was from another country.

20.) Middle Of The Road/The Pretenders - S: This was from the Learning to Crawl cassette. That's all I know about the Pretenders.

V: Not a bad 80's band. Maybe a little underrated.

21.) Cover Girl/New Kids On The Block - S: This one did stump Von, but lets be honest, he was a guy of the 80's he didn't really listen to NKTOB.

V: Man card intact.

22.) Summer of 69/Bryan Adams - S: Summer of 69 I was still in diapers, but the ladies loved my fashion choice of cloth over disposable.

V: He was all over the 80's, then went really weird glam for awhile. Dance with who brung ya BA.

23.) Gloria/Laura BranniganThe very beginning of this song sounds like the beginning of Xanadu by Olivia Newton John.

V: Oh man one of my 80's crushes.

24.) I Need Love/LL Cool J - S: LL and I share the exact same birth date. Von is still older than both of us though

V: I faked like I knew this song because I wasn't sure if it was LL.

25.) These Dreams/HeartThis was from their glam metal days.

V: Also known as the hot sister and the other one.

26.) Never Gonna To Give You Up/Rick Astley - S: Rick looks like a high school freshman in this video.

V: Not even going there, but I think we looked like idiots cruising through Georgia at this point.

27.) Hot In The City/Billy Idol - S: See Billy Idol gets it. This one is for you Lori

V: Aww I was hoping for the "self butt slapping" song.

28.) Perfect World/Huey Lewis and The News - S: In a perfect world you wouldn't be heading to Exile Island.

V: Booya Scott! Shake and bake!

29.) Got My Mind Set On You/George Harrison - S: Look it is George in a fun-house singing.

V: This song's just 6 words long. This song's just 6 words long.

30.) One Thing Leads To Another/The Fixx - S: Last one.

V: This video used to be on all the time on Friday Night Rock Blocks. Like all the time.

********************************************************************************

V: Stay cool/dry/comfy wherever you are, and Roll Tide!

S: Remember to be excellent to each other.

Goonies "R" Good Enough/Cindy Lauper

It's no She-Bop...
